Just started project number one zillion :screwy: Don't know why I can't finish one without starting another?
Anyway, a couple of nights work and this is what I got. A Sapphire blue Prismatic bodywork. Stil no clear coats on, maybe tonight?
There is going to be a new standard in slow updates so don't expect to see something very soon.

The colour is Alclad2, one of their prismatics that I put over the same brand gloss black base coat. I'm excited to see how it turns out when the clear coats goes on. If I get the chance it'll happen tonight after the kids has gone to sleep.

Thank you, all of you!

Those colors look amazing when you clear them, check out my 959 thread to see the green to gold. I now live by Alcad II prismatics... too bad they're so expensive...

Got an idea and thought that I should make some kind of checkerd look on the rear panel. Gold is the colour of my choice and then fade them out towards the door. Took a while to put the tape on but I didn't want to ruin the surface with a knife. Now I can just leave it for a while and kind of get the feel for it and stil be able to remove them without a trace.
Maybe I'll mist some more Sapphire blue over the gold and give them some kind of ghost apperance.
Let me know what you people think, in the end I will do as I like anyway but it's always nice to hear other peoples opinion :naughty:

Yes!
:naughty:

Actually I have a set of wheels that's a bit different for this type of car. But not for the look I'm going for.
You know the V8-Challenge that's going here in Scandinavia? Anyway, it's going to have a bit of a Racing look with a wheel set from a DTM-car, the old Warsteiner Mercedes. Five spoke wide rims that I plan to shoot with Alclad's Highly polished aluminium or Chrome and put on some threaded low profile tires instead of the slicks.
I've just completed masking up both sides for the checkers and I will carry that theme on and maybe put on some sponsor decals and numbers on the sides and roof.

Looks great, But I have 2 questions? Is that Testors Sapphire blue, and what clear do you plan on using?

nice colour on what sounds like an interesting project!
I'm impressed with your masking job there! :) You cut out all the little squares then stuck 'em on one by one?!?!
what kit is that BTW?

Some answers, the colour is as stated earlier from Alclad2. Both the base coat and the blue one.
The kit is Revell's 2'n'1 GTX, a really nice kit with no major problems. Almost falls together by it self, not really up to Tamiya standard but not very far away.

Thank you for your comments!

So here we go again, don't know what's wrong with me!?
I have actually made some progress in the last couple of days
I decided to go for the checkers on the fenders. Now it's just to put on a couple of more coats Sapphire blue and see what happens. The goal is to have the bodywork done in a couple of days from now because then I'll go on vacation to the summer house for 4 weeks.

Hey man your Swedish leaves a lot to desire! :naughty:

He actually asked me how I masked of the checkerd pattern without affecting the paint job underneath, think I should tell him?

Hey man your Swedish leaves a lot to desire

So...that was Swedish?!?! :iceslolan j/k

I figured that's what he was asking cos I was aksing myself the same thing, he he!

I think you masked off the rest of the car around your already in-place checker pattern and then sprayed the gold(?) colour the peeled off with a toothpick or smthg.

So, how close/far was I?

Again: BEAUTIFUL PAINT JOB AND IDEA!!! :bigthumb:

Haha.. :P I was to lazy to write it in English.. so I wrote it in Swedish :P Well Niclas how did you remove the masking? With a tooth pick or?

The winner is....OH NO! it's a tie for the wrong answer. It was a scalpel and a tweezer.

No seriously, you won a trip to Gulag Stevenski. No, no, no... a tractor. You can pic it up at my local grocery store within the next two days.
You got it right, there was a couple or three little squares to put on and then remove after the gold paint was on. Just loaded the compressor up so I can get some more Sapphire on the gold and hopefully get some kind of ghost apperance on the checkers.

Anyone done a tractor on here yet?
Apart from all the Lambo builders, of course!

look forward to seeing the ghost effect, this is a cool idea

Well, as I thought the ghost effect didn't show up. But I'll leave it as is and go on with the clear coats now as I'm pretty satisfied with the results anyway.
Here's a mock up with some AMG/OZ wheels in Alclad Magnesium. As Chrysler today is owned by Mercedes I think it's a neat idea to use some of their racing stuff on this old warrior.

Niclas

Not a very good pic, but it'll do for the moment. At least it gives an idea about my intentions on this build.

still a cool idea, though! Maybe the clear will change things somewhat?

Looks Sweet! In my opinion a pair of newer AMG DTM wheels would look hot.. OZ superturismo. Well it's your car and you decide but i think those wheels looks abit od combined with that body. Keep it up Niclas!

Well, I will now go to the corner and stand there for a while and feel ashamed of my self. I don't even know how to say hello, goodbye or anything in polish and you can even write swedish in an understandable fashion.
As this is the wheels I have they have to do. The superturisimo's you say, hmm........Nope, I don't agree on that choice for this one. They sure looks good but not on my car.
It'll all come together when the rest of the decals are in place and you get that "I'm on the run from the race track" look-alike I think!?

Well, 'til next time then

mmm...I think the centers of those wheels are a little too fat, especially for such an edgy car. The size is good, and the size of the spokes is good, but that center circle is just a little too big for that car. IMO. I love the checkers, though, neat idea!

:worshippy

On the 3000gt i am working on i took the circle grinder(rund fil) and grinded the centers of the rims and that might do the trick on yours to.

I had that in mind to and maybe I'll go for it. I have to see if it's going to work out and maybe do some cuting on the computer first. Everything will go on hold now for about 3½ weeks as I'm heading for the summer house to recharge myself and the family. But rest assured, I'll be back!
