hey, i know that i've posted something similar to this back in the old 71-91 forum, but i have an update on it. it was the "nooooo! no more vtec thread." Anyways, if you didn't read it....one day my VTEC stopped working and i tried everything to get it to work. I put my friend's mugen chipped PR3 ECU in my car and VTEC engaged, and the car hauled ass. I called up JDMhondaparts, where i got the motor from, and they sent me another pr3 ecu, once they received mine that i sent to them. I recently put it in my car, and drove it....still no vtec! :( anyways, eventually it started to throw code 17 (vehicle speed sensor)....but i have a speedometer read out?!? I bought a performance chip off of ebay, and my friends soldered it into my pr3 ecu, and I drove the car with my now chipped ecu.....and i seemed to get rid of the bogging/hesitation problems that i had before...but i still had no VTEC and it rev limited me at 7k. WTF. so, i put my friends mugen chipped ecu back in my car, and of course the thing works perfectly. The weird thing is that my friend had this ecu custom made for putting a 96 usdm gsr motor in his 89 crx si. Why does it work perfectly with my b16??? My ecu cant be bad....i am very confused.... please help.

Well maybe your friend chipped it wrong?? What kind of chip is it?

i bought the chip off of ebay for like $25. it don't recall what kind it was......it said that it raised rev limiter to 8500, and vtec x-over to 4800. it also gives you more aggressive fuel and ignition shit. it looked like my ASE certified friends intalled the chip right, to me.....with all the proper grounding precations...etc. I pretty sure that they never made an automatic SiR....since the PR3 ecu came out of that....

No maybe that guy is rite? Maybe it is an auto ecu. I know for sure that Japan has auto b16's . Call the place that you bought the ecu from and check to see if it is an auto ecu or not

pr3's were from the integra xsi/rsi and did come in auto. the pw0 was from the SiR and it was manual tranny only.

okay, i have an update.....i opened up my ecu, and there is a white stamp on one of the green computer board things...(not sure what it is called). anyways...the stamp says "MT" which means manual trans....so i know for sure that it isn't an automatic. oh yeah, a guy at jdmhondaparts told me that the pr3 came out of the civic sir.....sorry someone missled me..:)

I guess someone misled me too. I'm getting a chipped pr3 here in a few days, hopefully that thing works.

i think that i know why my friends mugen chipped ecu allows vtec to engage. the mugen chip eliminates the Vehicle Speed Sensor....which is the code that i am throwing. i know this because with this chip in.....i can be at a dead stop and in neutral...and rev it up, and now i can hear the VTEC crossover. Before, i couldn't because the ecu knew that the car wasn't moving...but now it doesn't. so, i think that iam going to just send my ecu back to jdmhondaparts and have them throw that same mugen chip in my ecu. good thing my friend doesn't need his ecu back anytime soon....his 96 usdm gsr swap is going slow as hell. anyways, i think that jdm will do it for like 150...so when i get some cash i'll do that. oh yah, one kind of cool thing is that with this chip....you dont have to be WOT for VTEC to engage....i can have my foot just barely on the gas, and when i hit around 5k...WAHHHHHHH! it's really fun around town....people immediately look over once it hits! later
