turbo information

anyone know of any good books about preparing blocks for turbo, like sleeving and all that, because one day i want to build an ls motor for turbo but i really dont know what is good sizes to bore the cylinders or what else needs to be bored out and all that.

depends how much u want to boost but you would prolly havve more luck if u go to homemadeturbo.com the main thing to worry about is engine/fuel management

For sleeving and boring, you're going to have to take it to a machine shop; they have the proper machines to do that. For putting the parts (rods, pistons, crank, etc) in the block, get a service manual. It will tell you how to put it together. But I do agree, check out homemadeturbo.com for more info.

you dont need to build the block if you arent goin to be running tons of boost thats what i was sayin..

especially on an ls motor. sleeving is pretty expensive and not worth it if you arent running high boost levels, if u get a rblt ls motor or rebuild it yourself u can run 12 psi with good fuel managemnent and have it be dependable but if u got the money and want to boost high 15-20 psi go ahead and build the block

PSI doesn't mean anything. 12psi with a T25 turbo is nothing compared to 12psi with a T3. Then there is adding different compression pistons and boring for more displacement. If you're looking for real power with a turbo, it's always a good idea to sleeve the engine. The only reason to not sleeve is to run low boost, and stick with low boost in the long run. If you run low boost and decide later to up the boost, you'll just have to take it all apart again a sleeve it anyways.

i was planning on running about 15 or less, whats the stock size of the cylinders in a b18b and what do people mostly bore them out to? or can i just look for some low comp. pistons for an ls and size them, then get it bored to fit them?

how much hp are you looking for because the ls block is proven to be pretty reliable at 300hp stock.

well i was thinking around about 200-250 range for now though, i meant if i were to build it up it would take a long time, i just didnt want to have to take the motor out when i finnaly decided to.

81mm, same as the other B's (except the b20 that is 84mm). Check out a site like evans-tuning.com and look at different setups people are doing, what size they bore them out to. Also look at different piston manufacturer web sites, they will tell you what bores they come made for.
