3rd Gen ECM question

My mechanic thinks I fried my ECM due to a few ignition wires grounding out and causing a short in my ignition system. So, my question is, if I get a replacement, does it HAVE to be from an 87 5.7L V8, or are they interchangable? The reason I ask, is, theres a few on Ebay that say they are from one year, but will work with any 3rd gen year and engine size.

Just swap the prom's. Your is interchange a few years in each directions and interchangable with a few different makes and models that gm makes. Good luck
