Got the flowmaster on, a bit disopointed... :(

I just got the 80 series crossflow on her, its supposted to have 2 1/2 pipes, but instead of shelling out $75 for each of the two pipes, i just got a couple of $10 adapaters, and welded on the stock 2 and a quarter pipes, everything is fine there, turned on the key.. wasnt impressed at all.
I noticed a bit of increased acceleration, and it does sound of a deeper tone, but nothing close to what they claim...
Do you guys think that if i did put the 2 1/2's on it like its supposted to be, it would sound any better (louder, etc) is that my problem?
I couldnt see how increase the pipe size by just a half of a half of an inch would help... Whats the problem here.. wish you guys could hear it becuase it doesnt sound anything special, sounds good, wont deny that but not what i was expecting, from what ive heard from other cars with flowmasters on...
Its a 92 RS if that is needed...

it's the stock pipes. I'm very happy with my flowmaster regardless of what anyone else says. I got the 3" system tho, sounds great and performs great.

Flowmaster just does not sound that good on F-body cars.... sound great on 4.6 and 5.0 Mustangs though.

Actually the 2.5" pipes will give you a bit deeper tone and a bit more aggressive sound too.

Mr. Lous, are you running Magnaflow? what is your opinion on Magnaflow? I've been thinking about running that on one of my IROCs....

hmm. so what, id be better off switching the pipes, or getting another muffler all together? Pretty close to the same price.

i beg to differ i have a set of headers, high flow cat, and the 3in flowmaster american thunder, which has the 80 seriese muffler. Im quite pleased with it. but then i like the exhaust note with a bit more crackle in it. magnaflow would definatly have a deeper mellow tone, but there is nothing wrong with a flowmaster. my car sounds aweseom.

Only thing I ever thought flowmasters sounded good on what 5.0 stangs, I have borla on my LT1 which does have a different sound then typical sbc would have but I am very happy with it.

They say this is the "highest" agressive sounding muffler, both inside and out, with a real deep tone..
The deepness is there.. just if you farted you wouldnt be able to hear the muffler over it...

DeusEx

i thought magnaflow was more for the ricer cars, that have that large tin can hanging off the back of it, with the popcorn machiene sound...
As for borta, ive heard of them, flowmaster was my first choice though, aparently it was a bad one.
I couldnt see how increaseing the pipe size by just a tiny bit would increase the sound that much.. its real quiet, alsmot quieter then the stock muffler, but with a deeper tone.
Also smells of strong gas now everytime i get out of the car...

It's the pipes....
The American Thunder System has a 3 in catback pipe and the muffler is a 5 x 10 case then the dual 3in pipes out. The pipe size and the larger muffler case is what makes this system roar. The 80 series is a 4x9.5 case so it's not as deep or loud.

I won't run nothing but Flows, The other systems out do nothing for me, Either too mellow to the point I can't hear them, or it's thin and raspy.

You said it's on a 92 RS? ARe we talking a V8 or 6. I had a 80s on my old 91RS V8 and sounded amazing.
Do the pipes exit past the rear bumper? If so cut'em so they don't and use the turn downs so it looks stock, This will amplify the sound and deepen it. Go with a larger 3in catback pipe and at least 2.5 pipe out the muffler.

he's got a 6 and im telling u they sound like 2 old folks f**king...bad! maybe on a 8 they sound good and i would agree with them sounding good on stangs because thats what i had on mines and when i got the maro i was like ill hook them up to it, and i was mad as hell when i picked the car up.. 2 different cars 2 different sounds.

I agree with Luos on this, Magnaflow> everyone else.

Especially after seeing Luos' T/A video, and hearing his car on my crappy speakers was enough to know that it sounds nice on his car.

Not yet.
I had a Magnaflow catback for the car, but I sold it to run true duals. I will be running Magnaflow mufflers on the duals though!!!

I have heard Magnaflow on the LSx based cars. Sounds as good as the higher priced catbacks. Plus it flows damn near the same.

I run magnaflow, sounds great ESPECIALLY for a sixer - Formula can agree/disagree as hes the only one here who heard my car lol.

Magnaflow for ricers?? Every compnay makes stuff for imports also, to make money... but hell no its not a ricer company

Flowmaster flows the worst and IMO sounds the worst on f-bodies. As it stands right now the only ones I love are Magnaflow and Borla - but Borla is way too expensive for me. If only my magnaflow was adjustable... or I could MAKE it adjustable... hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I'm partial to Gibson exhaust systems, had a catback on my 97 Z71, that wasn't particularly loud (single 3" pipe) but the performance increase was amazing.

I think I've got flowmasters on mine now... headers are in bad shape, but overall I can't complain. Then again it's a 3".

I'm toying around with going to Dynomax 3", Ceramacoat system... headers all the way back with the superflo mufflers. Haven't heard from anyone that had them, but one Chevy mag I read gave the company's products (overall) a thumbs up.

Hope your not talking about me, i have a good ol' v8

But anyway, ive had it on for about 4 days now, been just putting around, i like the way it sounds, i like the deep tone to it, just wish it was a bit louder.. think im going to get the bigger pipes, thats probably all thats wrong, it sounds real nice, love it actually, not sure why everyones complaining, hopefully the 2 1/2 will make it a bit louder, everything is stock so far, from the headers back (except the muffler witch i just got obviously)

Anyway, heard the magnaflow, dont like the way it sounds, i like the deep, muscle car sound, not the ricer type sound...

:1:

This guy at school has a 6 banger with duel exhaust and flowmasters. Sounds like a mad bumble bee trying to fart like a 427.

Anyway, has anybody used Bassani?

I heard of them and didn't think anything about them but I heard a '97 Cobra with them on the other night and it was MEAN sounding.
It's hard to get a 4.6 to have a mean rumble at all but this Bassani system did it. If it did that I'd imagine a 350 would break the windshield while driving by.

flowmasters sound awesome on my car, i have the same exhaust as eric but my lt1 sounds slightly different than most tpi cars... anyways, not to be cruel or anything, but if u woulda asked wether or not flowmaster would sound good on a 6, all of us coulda told u no lol... but bigger outlets will change the sound a lil, but flowmaster is best on the V8 :evillol:

I've been to their site and they have some things. Don't really have much of anything for the 3rd generations but their selection for the LS-1 is fairly nice.

yeah well it idles like a nice toned down LT1 and its pretty loud for a 6er. Only if i let off the gas at high rpms, no clutch then it starts cracking.

Someone with LT1 and another set of flowmasters rolled by me just drowned out my muffler i'm like ....fuck =P

It sounds alright but you can tell its not a 6er at high rpms but not that bad where its annoying @ high rpms.

I'm just kinda babbling right now, i'm tired... I wonder why they made pillows outta feathers not like outt a jello or hacky-sacs... hmm...waffles...

Didnt mean it sounds like the ricers, but they do make mufflers for ricers, witch are more known around here... (where i live)
I just mean flowmaster has a deeper sound to it, to my ears at least.
And once again, i have a v8, wouldnt think it would sound the save with a 6er...
