Couldn't Shake off A Del Sol..

Ok, i'm done with racing until i get a faster car...seriously....lol..

I'm on the meadowbrook, again..to go to roosevelt field mall area to drop off some applications.. I'm going about 60 in the middle lane, then a early 90's model del sol i coming behind me fast, cuttin some cars and such... I slowed down so he could cut me off to (i don't know if he was racing or in a rush..either way, MAKE ROOM)...he's now in the middle lane kinda gridlocked....doing maybe 75... I'm now a good 5 car's behind him... I floor it, get up to 100 from 60 in a short bit...get behind him, then cut fast to the left and cut my way through traffic....now he's on my ass....as in, inches away. I get back into the middle lane doing 100...cuttin some slow cars, and he's a good 2 cars back.... Now another car, i cut around them...and it's me and the del sol behind me...ON MY ASS..

I slowed to 55 (to much traffic ahead) and he gets beside me, his passenger smiles and gives the peace sign..i smile and knod... It was a good little race, and i was surprised that little car could keep up... It was lowered, and had a small fart can muffler..colored hood... I don't know if anything was done, i didn't here a bov or any whine..

PS, i never got my ecu fixed to remove the speed limiter of 103mph (don't want to unless i get a better d-shaft either)...if i could go past 103...i wonder who'd have won..? At 100 my car has some more oomph...so i'd probably hit like 117/120.. That's why i think he stuck with me, cause his car could go over 100 (not governed i believe).. Whereas my engine cuts off the fuel injectors i believe at 103..slows to 100mph etc......SUCKS... Either way, i can't wait to drive ATLEAST high 13's car...

3.27 gears, cai, removed mufflers...stock pretty much.

from 60-100, usually someone at least makes a lil progress. From my expirience, anything past like 110 when starting at 60 is just showing off.lol

A 4.5L eh. How much horses does she make? And how much torque?
I think the Del sol is a pretty light car, but don't count on my thoughts cause i know nothing about those cars.
But it doesn't sound like it was modded. Maybe engine swap.

My tbirds 4.6L is 205hp/265lb ft...not at the wheels.

It's probably more like 160hp/235lb ft at the wheels...then again, my car has 133K on the ticker...so it has to be even less..

Truth be that if he was staying on your ass, he was just messing with you, and more than likely could have blew past you if he felt like it. But I don't know, that's just what it seems like to me as you describe it. And then again, I don't know what was done to the Del Sol. But, I'm going to have to say he could have taken you much sooner if he wanted to.

In stock form my '90 crx dx stuggled to get to 90mph and went no further. After the b16 swap it's still pulling pretty hard after 110mph (haven't taken it higher yet). B16's were a factory option for mid-90's Del Sols. Just food for thought.

bow down to the honda!!! lolz just playing. del slows EX's with stock engines are 16 second cars, so they're around your league. i'm not sure if its true but i also believe the Del Slow Si's have a B16A in them so they're 15 second cars. but yeah, being limited at 103mph sucks, i can cruise to that speed without even trying.

hmm...its time to drop a crate motor in that tbird of yours ;) , or since its a modular. Rebuild the bottom end, and go get some 4v heads :) that would be killer.

I heard it was fairly easy to drop a del sol into the 14's though I was probably misinformed.

Anyway, good run, I recently took one on myself and was kind of suprised at how well it pulled to 100.

Don't even get me started on modding my tbird....lol..

My good friend who's a diehard mustang fan...he suggested i mod the hell out of it.. Mainly, internal's...then...nitrous.. Ofcoarse he did say EVERYTHING else would have to be done from the ground up...unless i wanna die at 130mph..lol.

I'd rather buy a decently fast car, stock..like a 97 350 camaro..then again, for like $8-12K my tbird could be under 12 seconds. Then again, it will always be a tbird..

I'm more into getting the camaro, then supercharging it...gears..maybe some engine/trans work...but mainly keep it simple.

You can make a mustang a 9 second car....and i'll still take a 350 vette..even if it barely breaks high 12's...

A vette and a mustang are really two completely different cars. They really are not competition.

Lol, mustang owners say that cause they know the're gonna lose..

And YES..they can be made of equal power/handling...BUT, even if the stang is faster, and cut's corners better in the end....it'll never be a chevy.

The Del Sol came in 3 trims; S, Si and VTEC.

S being sohc non-vtec, I'm not exactly sure what motor came with this one. Either a D15 or a D16. Either way they're pathetic.

Si came with sohc vtec (d16z6) with 125hp (I think). Somewhere in the 16 second range.

The VTEC's (tell tale sign is the sticker on the back) came with b16a3's (I'm not sure, but this could be the revision with 170hp. Let's just play it safe and say it has 160hp). 15 seconds easy. Probably in the mid-high range.

Either way, I'm not sure that any of the Del Sol's trapped that high. You probably would've eventually won if it weren't for your speed governer.

I believe the ECU cuts it off at 120mph...

The Del Slow is like half the weight of the bird so that's why they scoot even with the power windows (left, right and rear) etc. Vtec version with B16 is pretty fast...
