Just brought my "new to me" 01 silvy ext cab 2wd. I want to change factory speakers. Can I pop off those mesh metal things covering the speakers, or do I need to remove entire door panel? I want to replace front and back speakers.
Please help me to not ruin my new silvy's interior (which is cherry!!)

must remove the entire door panel but it is not that hard. there are a couple 7 mm bolts under door handle and one under power window switch, switch just pulls up and the the whole door panel will lift after the 2 or 3 screws are out. and the back doors have 2 7 mm in the top of door panel, may have a screw cover over them. then they have snap clips holding the door on just pull lightly and work your way around, also u might wanna do a search. its been a while since i took one apart, but its easy. i hope this helps.

so how do I get the screw covers off so it doesnt look like a badger did the job? I need to get a 7mm socket you say? I have a 1/4" drive standard set.
Oh yeah, one more question: Will a 6x9 fit in the front door?

to get the covers off , can a small flat tip screwdriver and gently pry and they should pop up. and all the screws are 7 mm. 6x9 will not fit unless you do alot of modification to the door. the front should be 6 1/2 and a tweeter . and the back are 4x6.

Ok, I am gonna shop ebay for a few mb quart replacements (MB Quarts) I already have some 1" MBQuart 19nx tweeters that I love.
I also want to change my Head unit to an alpine 9853 with the glidetouch. I need to know if there is an adapter harness that allows me to just unplug factory head unit and plug in my alpine with ease. I deal with wiring all day as an electrician, and am intimidated by my "2001" silvy as this is my first vehicles that is not pre-1980 :uhoh:
Is there any such harness? Is it a pain in the azz to replace factory head unit?
Thanks for your time and info, I really appreciate it

if you have bose , you will need to find the factory amp and bypass it, but if no bose then you are fine. radio is simple to replace, i would buy all metra parts which are found at circuit city and best buy. they are the best quality. and the harness, they have them to plug into the car and then u have to wire it to the alipine but its color matching so its easy, then solder and tape of crimp. less than a hour job.

the metra parts are the dash kit to hold radio and wire harness to wire in radio. met992002 in dash kit for 99-02 and harness is met701858 and antenna adapter is met40gm10. the rear doors do not lift they unsnap all the way around the door. just work slowly around door pulling out ward and it will come off.

Ok. I installed the alpine 9847 myself. I bought the kits from bestbuy. They were going to install my 4channel alpine amp, but they want $92.99 for an 8ga. kit + $89.99 labor!! I bought the same kit from ebay for $28 shipped.
Im gonna try and do the back door speakers today when it cools down.
Thanks!!
