install question

i'm gonna feel kinda slow asking this but ya know....never hurts to ask. Ya see i wanted my car to have that nice deep rumble. And me being the cheap person that i am I made a trip to good ole' wally world and bought two 3 1/2 inch tips and screwed them on. And when i started my car up it sounded exactly the same, no difference in sound what-so-ever. So my question is...is there like a special way to put these on that i don't know about???

:shakehead You cant get rumble from just changing out your exaust tips -- they just make your car look like it can rumble.

How many miles does your car have? Also, how much air pressure is coming out of the exhuast pipes? If you have a high-mileage engine and little air flow from your exhuast then you might be able to play w/ it for a legitimate reason.

If your flow is low, then your catalytic converter is plugged up. You should be able to go to a good muffler and exhaust shop and talk to them. What you can do have the shop chop out your Cat. Conv. and ram a small pipe through the honeycomb of the catalytic (assuming your state isn't anal about emissions standards) to clear it of debris.

Result: More air though engine=more noise ;)

Just be sure that the shop doesn't totally remove your cat or put a huge hole though the middle since you DO need some backpressure from the cat to make the engine run right.

Anyway, you could leave the tips to keep the pretty look.... but in case your engine is what makes most the noise....

But i suppose you could buy a fart-can muffler and not help your engine any while you're at it....

ok if i understand right http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/products/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=3286 this, as long as it fits. Which i think it does would make my car louder and whatever comes after it doesn't matter since tips do nothing. And at the bottom of that pages it doesn't say it works on a 1990 Bonneville but flow master and magna flow apparently don't get much buisness from bonnie owners....i think i'm right but if not tell me what i need....

I have an F-Body (Camaro/Firebird) Magnaflow on my 90 SSE. There's no problem with it fitting but it's not just a bolt-in replacement.

I suppose you could buy a new pair of tail pipes and weld or clamp them to the muffler in order to use the factory hangers. Make sure that the muffler outlet diameter is the same size as the tail pipe diameter. I believe that the stock size is 2 1/4".
