Cleaning the MAF

My car has 237K miles...i think it could use a good cleaning of the MAF.
Has anyone attempted this?
Other car owners seem to be doing this.

it shouldn't get dirty as its goes behind the air filter

well the previous owner didnt care for the car much.
and drove around without a oil cap for months..the engine compartment was covered in oil.
I checked and the intake was pretty nasty...cleaned it out and the MAF.
runs the same.
oh well...costed me like 2 bux for the cleaner.
while i was there i replaced the factory tubing with some 2.5" tubing from the air box to the front air dam. Not ram air but better than sucking hot engine air.
