acrylic paint stripping problem

Hi,

I'm building a BMW 535i kit from Fujimi, and I've just began to paint window frames and black strips (you know, those strips that prevent the door from damaging if it hits something) on the body.

I did the trim and the strips on one side, and it doesn't really look good; the strips seem too big, too over-exaggerated, they don't look good at all. So, I'd rather have the car without the black strips...

The strips are painted with black Tamiya acrylic paint; the body is mica red, a laquer and also from Tamiya.

Is there any way to get rid of the acrylic paint, without damaging the red laquer as well? I really don't want to strip the entire body... :shakehead

What's windex?

Windex is a glass/mirror cleaner. It's safe on laquer and removes acrylic. I use it to clean out my airbrush whenever I spray with acrylics. It is available in the United States, unsure about other countries.

You can also try rubbing alcohol, although Windex works better. Just dip it in a cotton swab and run it across the acrylic.

let the Lacquer paint set up before trying to remove the Acrylic. wait at least 3 weeks if you havent already.

Do not use any types of thinner.. If you read my S2000 progress thread, you will know what happened when I tried to remove arcylic paint from TS paints using arcylic thinner... Oh yep.. I removed all the paint right down to the primer.. I have no idea how I saved that build..!!

Windex in the UK is windolen... Or something like that..

If you can't get Windex, or an ammonia based window cleaner, you can add a little ammonia to water to make an acrylic stripper.
Avoid alcohol with Tamiya lacquers... - Mark

Thanks for the replies!

I'm located in Holland, and we don't have any Windex here I think. The shops here do offer glass cleaner products, but they aren't called Windex. Sooo, will glass cleaning products other than Windex work as well?

If not, I might have a go with the water and ammonia...

Or you can sand it.
