Dimensions are 31x14x2.75, this is the larger core that Custom Coach sells for our cars, capable of effeciently flowing 1200 CFM. As far as the DSMs, i had already sold them to a 3SI member who lives 2 streets over from me, and i had already installed them for him. If I still had them, i would have been more than happy to sell them to you.

If you still want to tackle the project, it cost me a total of $330. I bought both of the DSM sidemounts from dsmtrader for $80. I then took them to a guy i know (in your case, your welder) and he had to cut one of the end tanks off, reverse it, plug up a hole and drill a new one. Then he took the stock piping off of my stock intercoolers, cut them and welded them on the DSM intercoolers. Of course, you can just buy mandrel bends if you want, they will work just as good and you can sell your stockers. And finally i lined up the DSM sidemounts, marked where new brackets should go, took them back to the guy doing the welding, and he welded new brackets on, and i had DSM sidemounts. Remember though, when doing brackets, you only need one bracket bolted on the car per sidemount. There is no need to have all three if its going to be too much trouble. One bolt per intercooler worked fine for me.

shweet! are you gonna keep the stock IC pipes or get new mandrel bent piping? do you prefer mandrel over regular bends (non-uniform radius thru bend)? i know some guys that DON'T like mandrel b/c when the pipe is bent, the outer pipe wall becomes thinner than the rest of the bend causing a potential instability. either way you go, mandrel bends give you about 15%-20% better flow and look better IMO.

Do you know how to weld? The cold side of mine refused to fit until I chopped it up and welded it back together so it would fit, so just a heads up. Good luck.

yes, i am using mandrel bends, i can't exactly use stock piping with this. I ordered a bunch of mandrel bends from custom coach as well, which should be in today. Prior to ordering the mandrel bends, i measured to see how much of what kind of bends i needed and then ordered them, so all i have to do is fit them, weld a couple of them together and attach silicon hoses to where i want to be able to remove the pipes if i have to remove them. I'm using 2 inch inlets per turbo and a single 3 inch outlet.

Do you know how to weld? The cold side of mine refused to fit until I chopped it up and welded it back together so it would fit, so just a heads up. Good luck.

nope, can't say i've ever welded before, but i do have a couple of friends who can, and they said they'd take care of me. I'm assuming your talking about the cold side of your intercooler piping. If so, i didnt order a piping kit, i had to order individual bends because i notided that the piping kit would not fit around the auto tranny, so i had to create my own piping.

are you trying to hint that those intercoolers are air to water cooled or w.e.???? Cuz that water bottle is pretty misleading other wise

what talskinyguy said. I was too lazy to go grab a coke can and luckily i had a bottle of water nearby so i just decided to use that instead :p

yes, i am still on the stock SL pistons. As i have stated my plans, I see no reason to lower the compression ratio until i blow my motor, if i do. I am planning on swapping out pistons eventually, but not at this moment.

Is it just me or is that touching the ground?

i see how that picture is deceiving. The intercooler is really not that close to the ground at all, it fits behind the bumper nicely. Many 3/S's are using the custom coach 14 inch intercooler.

for the longest time the Custom Coach site http://www.geocities.com/speedpartsrus/3000gt.html has had the 14" intercooler kits 'OUT OF STOCK' and they don't list the 14" separately. so did you purchase it from their site or call them directly and just have them fabricate on for you?

how much was the 14" intercooler? how much for piping?

i've searched through and through and Custom Coach does sell the cheapest, yet apparently reliable and good-quality intercoolers out there. unless of course you get one used (some other brand) for a great price

custom coach doesnt sell the 14" kit, however they will sell you the 14" core for $400, and i spent an extra 100 to have it polished, cause well polished just looks soooo nice. As far as piping goes, i bought all my mandrel bends from custom coach as well. I measured out to see what all i would need a placed an order. Of course, i have to do this because of my auto tranny is much bigger than the manual, so none of the piping kits would work for me anyways. A lot of people tend to buy the piping kits from PPE Engineering for somewhere around 600-700. In fact, there's a group buy going on for the piping on 3SI right now. But, with the PPE engineering pipes, you wouldnt be able to use the 14" core from custom coach as it has 2 inlets and one outlet. The PPE pipes are made for one inlet and one outlet.

shift kit
tranny cooler
high-stall torque converter
LSD insert

before i daily drove my car, romping it quite a bit (on stock turbos) with just a tranny cooler. Only burned up 1 end clutch, replaced that and haven't had any problems sense. I upgraded the tranny because i upgraded turbos with intentions of raising boost.

i'll try to get some pictures soon. I've been having issues with my radiator fans, so i finally broke down today and began to rewire the radiator fans completely, so they will work. I currently have the front bumper off again because a nice chunk of paint somehow came off, so me and a buddy are going to try to paint it in flush with the rest of the bumper. If we can't, then i'll have to get it repainted, but as soon as i get it all back together, i'll take some pictures.

nahh, i wont be fabricating anymore pipes, all the pipes have been on for a couple of weeks and running just fine. Fabricating the pipes is what got my hand. Anyways, radiator comes back out, after doing electrical tests, there's a short in the fan motors, so i have new fans coming in this week.

sorry i haven't responded any sooner. I was rather upset this past weekened, i was on my way up to the track to get sometimes, and my car overheated because the fans didnt cut on, and now something is preventing the car from starting, and it should be a sparking issue. I haven't had time to diagnose it yet due to classes, but hopefully i can get it going soon (that and i finally got my viper hood in and i'm anxious to get that put on).

hey hotshot, as far as the fans are concerned, wire them to a switch so you can turn them on/off manually. much easier than waiting/hoping for them to come on. plus you can turn them on at the track without having the A/C on. nice alternative...should solve your over-heating issues. unless, of course, your thermostat has seized and melted into one piece ( mine did that once).

best of luck to ya! let us know about the new times when you get them.

when my fans cut off it was because the fuse to them was somehow melted and the size of wiring going to them was too thin/weak to handle the current. I think we replaced it with some 8 gauge and a barrel fuse.

well guys, looks like there won't be any track times this year for my car. Me and a friend started doing some diagnosing to why my car isn't starting. First test, fuel, FPR gauge shows plenty of it, and you can smell it. Second test, spark, every coil pack is getting spark. So that leaves compression. First test using this kit i bought a few months ago but haven't used it yet, #1 cylinder showed around 40 psi, thought it was messed up, so we tried #3 cylinder, it was showing 120 PSI, not bad, but still too low for 10:1, and cylinder #5 just blew the tester out of there, it was at like 190 or so.

We retested #1, 40 PSI, so looks like my overheating cracked the piston rings, so it looks like its time for a rebuild, but the good thing is, i have extra heads and all my other internals are in good shape and forged. My plans are to be keeping the stock rods and crankshaft, I will upgrade bearings, and I am looking at going with 8:1 Wiseco pistons, and I will probably send my extra heads in to DR for some stage 3 heads. We'll see what happens, but due to as busy as I am, it's looking like a winter long project.

cracked the piston rings?---> could the loss in pressure (pressure leak) come from the head gasket?

i've never heard of overheating cracking piston rings, but you could have very likely fried the head gasket. the only counter-argument might be that IF you did fry the head-gasket and there is a leak somewhere, then why wouldn't there be leaks around the other cylinders (on the same side of the block) ?

EDIT: oh, and since you did over heat, you might want to check plane of the bottom of the heads. i know you said you have an extra set of heads and that you'd send them to DR to get stage 3 work done, but i guess it would be nice to see if the over-heat warped the heads or not. at least it could let you know whether or not there was a leak in that cylinder via the head/head-gasket, or if it really was the piston ring.
