okay long story so bare w/ me....i swapped a 87 iroc posi rear into my 91 rs and the gears shredded so i took it to a shop that was gonna work on it. this is where the real problem started. i spent over 900 just for parts (eaton posi, richmond gears, etc...) and when i got it back after an unreasonable amount of time there was a whine in it. had it back four times now and whine still there. the first time i took it back they said the problem was they didnt tighten the pinion nut down...are u kiddin me u put the ring and pinion in and didnt tighten down the nut on it...
fast forward to the third time its in there they say the axles had rust on them and needed cleaned off so they have to charge me when its supposed to be warranty work....and they didnt see it the first time and thats what caused it to mess up again...paid that. got it back whine still there they said its cause the axles are slightly bowed....hmmm... drive out and have no back breaks... they say they didnt touch the calipers but yet they chared extra to work on the rear cause it had rear discs.. i also had wheel bearings put in but they didnt touch the calipers...hmmm..
paid 260 more for a new master cylinder, and bleeding twice from master back and problem still there and now a high pitch scrething but dont think pads are worn cause brand new all most comming from driver caliper.
also now grinding noise not whining back in rear end and oh one more important detail they misrepresented some of the intall parts to me like they said i had a deluxe richmond gear intall kit and such goin in there but cross checked part numbers from reciept they gave me and no such part from richmond its really a bottom dollar ratech parts from summit. so they commeted fraud on the reciept. do u guys think i have a case since for one they falseified reciepts and parts misrepresentation and two cause ive paid over 2 grand almost and have the same problems plus some as before i took it??
sorry for the length but now u know how i feel opinions if anyone actually gets to the end would be appreciated. thanx.

i'd bust in the garage door, doped up like Tony Montana and shoot up the joint, and tell em to say hallo to my grind'n rear end.

yeah i cant find a damn lawyer yet that will handle it but not charge till i get paid all the ones ive tried either want money up front or just handle accidents. im taking my car back again today and if it comes back w/ a whine or anything less than perfect brakes i will take it to small claims court i guess.

Damn, that sucks! Sometimes, there are shops that do shitty jobs on purpose, just to get you to come back and pay more money for the next problem. I say take them to court, you know your shit about cars, so they can't fool you that much. I just don't like how there are people out there who do that shit to people, it's just grimey. I'm pissed. Justlearning, we should ride on them motherf*****, i'm going to school for this shit, and i be damned if i'm gonna screw someone over, cuz i wouldn't want that to happen to me.

Small claims court is your best option. You should get a few other mechanics to give you something in writing that it's not right... even if you have to pay them for their time it'd be worth it.

dont posi rear ends give off a slight wine anyways? Or maybe the fluid was old or had been heated up too much. Because I know that on auto trannys your converter will start to wine if the fluid is too hot. Whether that has anything to do with anything I dont know. But i think posi's do have clutchpacks. But that really sucks dude. They are doin some crappy work and/or taking you for a ride.

take him to small claim courts then beat the shit out of them and tie them to your maro and dragg them around for a few miles that sounds fair to me.

Take your car into a transmission shop, even the *gasp* dealership have an estimate done on repairing the rear end and ask them to check the parts with the parts you have indicated on your receipt, then confront the manager or owner of the shop with what you have on the receipts from the other places, ask him/her what they are going to do to fix the problem. I had a problem with a facility that changes oil (they shall remain nameless, im not out to bash anyone), they changed the oil in my grand am and charged me for synthetic oil (which had been run in the car for the last 100k miles) and failed to put in synthetic, instead regular oil went in, trashed the motor. Long story short, they ended up paying for a new crate motor and the labor to install it after I threatened to sue them. Good luck.

yeah i just got back from dropping it off up there and they said to replace the axles cause thats whats causing the whine/grind in the rear cause its eating up the bearings. but i told them the axles where fine when i put the rear in orriginally and they didnt diagnose that problem when they charged me like 60 bucks for diagnosis nor did they diagnose the rust on them they say was there and charged me like 40 to clean. and yeah i confronted the manager on the part numbers they alleged where richmond and he admited they werent and that there was some kind of mix up when making out the reciept and when telling me they were all richmond and he said raetech was just as good and i said ratech or what ever was the base line cheapest stuff they had on summit. so if i have to pay another dime or it comes out w/ a whine and still bad brakes im taking them to court i suppose, and u know i hate to do it cause a couple of guys up there seem like nice guys, but im not just gonna let them shaft me at the same time...i found them in the phone book by the way and when i got there there was nothing but imports in the drive way that should of tipped me off and i shoulda turned right around but what can u do it was being towed up there.

I dont get it, why didnt you just get a new/better rear with posi from thunderracing.com for 1K, be alot better, but that was then now, you're out 2K or so, gotta take this crap to COURT, get your money back THEN buy the new posi.

you definatly have a case, i wouldnt let them do any more work to the car, i would take them to court, sue them for the cost of all the work done so far, and then sue to have them pay another shop to do the work correctly. you have grounds for that, plead in your case to the judge that at this point you have no faith in the first shops ability to do work or be honest about what they have done, and that the only course of action you are comforateable with is another reputable shop to do the repair work and that the first shop having already messed with your car is liable for any compications that may arise and should cover the cost of the repair job at another location.
