I just my PE sets yesterday and I'm worried that they will rust.
Also I have Tamiya Fine Surface Primer L for plastic and metal, can I use that instead of Tamiya Metal Primer?

No, photoetch will not rust. No company etches steel for PE detail parts.
Tamiya surface primer will work just fine- but using primer may slightly fill detail on PE parts.

I do have some steel PE sheets, Stainless Steel, old stuff at that too.
Most is brass and often nickle plated.
Just keep in a zip lock bag, nothing will happen to it.
As MPWR said, be careful about filling in detail with the primer... - Mark
