Cold Air Intake

I'm looking to make my own cold air intake and was wondering if anyone else had already done so. Could I get some pointers, maybe some pictures of other people's intakes? I really need to know how to make the stock MAF sensor work. I know I'm going to have to make some sort of flange to bolt it to. What I'm wanting to do is get some 3" steel tube and run it from the throttle body, down towards the driver's side of the grill and under the bumper and capping it off with an aftermarket filter (K&N, Airraid, ect.). Thanks!

I tried something yesterday. I took the air box apart, then took off the part that goes from the MAF to the fender. I took the filter and put it on like it's supposed to (without half of the box) and clamped it on with the metal "compression" ring. Seems to work ok. I mean, it's not what I want, but for less than 5 minutes of work, it doesn't do a bad job. I ran it for a while, letting the engine get nice and warmed up and i popped the hood to check the temp. by hand. The filter was barely warm, so engine compartment heat isn't really effecting it. I still want to do something different to get more and colder air into this thing.
