Bush Bashing in the 4WD

Just came back from a couple of days camping at Pt Perpendicular just off the coast of Nowra.

We all hopped in our friends Suzuki Vitara, and followed the instructions of this book out to Mussle Beach. It was all dirt track, and we actually were going through military land with signs stating.... AUTHORISED PERSONEL ONLY....mines, lasers, and bombing tests on these grounds  :p

but we stuck to the road, which became a real 4wd track.... Lots of holes every where, sand, we went through a few water holes....meanwhile the driver was near shitting himself.... got bogged in the sand.... helped push him out...

towards the end of the track... it was getting really bad, and lots of rocks and stuff, at one point the guys decided we better not risk it, and the driver had to try and do like a 10 point turn to get the head of the car back around.... Poor bugger was in shock, cause he got lodged on a big rock, sometimes with 2 wheels on the ground, sometimes 3...

he would have made it over if he hadn't stalled it so many times, or given it a bit of gas.

All in all, a very fun time was had by all...apart from the driver :p and we found a great fishing spot and caught some fish.....

the drive out of the camp site was another story yesterday..... the track was all muddy, and at one point, don't know exactly what he did.... he must have touched the brakes a little, and he totally lost it....the whole rear of the car sliding who knows how far...it felt like slow mo...almost hitting two poles on the side of the road, and then he totally changed the steering over, and we went over the embankment on the other side, and ended up stopping there on a side street...lucky it was a intersection there....otherwise we would have landed in bush!

The irony of the drive out is that the civic and the other guy's integra got out without any problems :p

I have first dibs on the CT thx :D What happened to getting an EG Oz?

Sounds like you had a fun time Q. 4x4ing is fun, we took a patrol out a few months back and really worked it over the rocks. Bogged it down twice out on tracks and got caught on rocks once. The owner had snatch gear though so it wasn't an issue. One thing I've noticed is that to own a 4wd and use it properly, you have to be prepared to accept damage. It took a big under chassis hit from rocks we were negotiating, the driver didn't even wince wheras I would have been crying if it happened to my car. :D

hehe.... well the driver was almost shitting himself :p and if he hadn't stalled it so many times, he probably wouldn't have had that much trouble in spots.

I cannot hide my NZ roots any longer...
 :finger: - Bring It On

Setanta - an EG has always been on the cards as an eventual off-it's-balls project car in 3-4 years. A 4th gen will do nicely for a start. Especially when you're spending your own hard-earned moolah, and don't get it handed to you by parental unit ( -SB)

Been there done that Oz - every car I've owned was paid for by me. It's tough and I would have killed for my folks to buy me one... but there is a level of moral superiority about paying for yourself.

Read: Yeah, I'm pissed off about having to do it too :D
