'71 Nova Carburetor help!

Hey everyone! My first post here ends up being a question.

I have a 1971 Nova with a 327 from a '67 Corvette, few minor mods and stuff but I plan on getting a 454 before the end of the summer.

Anyhow, my last carburetor kicked the bucket so I bought a new one and installed it myself. Its a Holley 750 CFM (yeah its probably a bit high, but I want to use the same Carb on my 454, but anyway..)Car runs very nice now only one problem....
From a standing stop when I floor it, the car seems to lost all power and feels like its going to stall out on me. But If I floor it from like 10-15 mph roll it takes of pretty well. Could anyone give me any idea of what is wrong and why it wants to stall from a stop when I hit the gas. Thanks for your help everyone!

Does your new 750 have mechanical or vacuum secondaries? Either way the problem may be the secondaries are opening too soon causing the bogging situation you describe. Try flooring it slowly from a dead stop. If it runs good like this you need to adjust the secondaries to open later.

You should also check to see what your timing is and try advancing it or retarding it to see if that helps. good luck and if you figure it out let me know.

On Holley carb's you have an accelerator pump that supplies fuel through two "squirters" to the main venturies under hard acceleration. If the size of the squirter is too large it will flood the mains and cause your acceleration bog. Holley sells kits so you can tailor the size of the stream and time it takes to deliver it.
