Accessing ignition switch

What is the best way to access the ignition switch on a '99 Grand Am? I'm having a problem with the wire harness that plugs into the switch. Occasionally, my gauges and HVAC will go out while driving. If I reach two fingers in through the center console when the radio is removed and squeeze the harness into its receptacle, everything comes back. Obviously, I'm losing the circuit, but I can't get enough access space to everything through the center console to figure out why this is a recurring problem and whether it's the harness itself, a bad pin, dirty contacts, or whatever. Any suggestions?
