PLEASE HELP 88 wrangler keeps cutting out!!!

I have a 1988 Jeep Wrangler. It just got a new rebuilt engine and tranny. After you start it, it runs great for about 30 minutes- 1 hour. After that as you slow down and get down to about 15 mph it cuts out. It starts up fine, it idles beautifully but, when you shift it into gear it cuts out. If you let it rest for about a half hour it will work perfectly again for another 30 minutes or so then the same thing starts to happen. It is very frustrating. I have changed all the vaccuum lines so there are no leaks. Somebody please help me figure this out!

sounds like a cam position sensor may be failing under heat stress. or the ignition module.....
Double check all connections....

thank you so much for getting back to me. i replaced the old distributor w/ a brand new DUI HEI distributor. And also eliminated all pollution. Could it be something with the air screws in the carborator? And do all 88 wranglers come with a crank positioning sensor?

Someone please help me!!! It's not the air screws. I cannot figure this problem out and it is really frustrating. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know!!!!!!!!!

had an 89 that would die and then start after sitting a while. Eventually it quit and would not start.
Replaced the black box under the windsheild washer fluid tank.
Prob solved. I think its the ignition module located on driver side fender under the washer fluid tank. Had to drill out rivets that fasten the tank in its mount and slide tank up but did not have to remove the tank.
2 bolts to fender and one electrical plug. Was pretty simple.

When is the last time you had the carb rebuilt. The carter carbs are notorious for having this problem. There is a quick on-vehicle fix for you to try out here, otherwise maybe its time to buy a 20$ rebuild kit or send it out and have it rebuilt?

FYI -- maybe take a look at swapping out the carter for another one (weber/holley/motorcraft 2100)
