I live in a little no nothing town in Wisconsin but i swear the cool thing to do around this area is to have a damn neon. I mean this people that drive these cars in this area try to make them look all badass when really they are just wasting their money. Its gets to a point where it just makes you angry when have time you have a neon pull up along side you it has a stupid little exhaust tip to make it sound and look cool, when really more people hate neons then like them.
So just wondering if anybody seems to have the problem around there area where you live such as around where I live?

It's always the same badass 16 year old kids driving there "pimp" neon's around like there some sort of performance tuner car. ie: neon lights, carbon hood, chrome spinning rims, and the coffee can muffler.
Nothing against neon owners, but it make's no sense to throw five to ten thousand at a two thousand dollar car..

Good call Sen Sen, the old neons are really ugly and cheap. i do however like the new neon SRT-4. it has 230hp stock and a turbo, it looks alot better than the old ones.

yeah, there fast in a stright line but the handling is terrible. I took a spin in one recently and was (as expected) disappointed... there was no control in turns.
good call from the makers though...the turbo will just help sell more of them....sadly...

Actually the 1st generation Neon engines take very well to being turbo-charged. The ACR version happens to handle VERY well. Also, the SRT-4 does not handle like shit. Perhaps you just don't know how to drive or you're just making stuff up.
The fact of the matter is that every econo-box has fallen victom to some stupid jackass owning it and wasting money on worthless mods not just the Neon.

I don't doubt his claim - with a big majority of the weight over the front wheels and a turbo to kick in and burn the wheels up on corner exit, the SRT-4 is not an easy car to take turns with. But with an experienced driver, it's one of the best handling cars for the money, period. It'll outrun a WRX and Mustang GT even (although that's in large part due to its excellent stock tires).

They are as polygon said good tuner cars, if only people would stop tuning the appearance and tune it for speed they would get more respect...

i agree with both sen sen and G-man422, the new neon srt-4, is a very good car, with having 230 HP stock as gman said, the neon also coming with a stage 1,2,or 3 turbo kit, this makes this car very incredible, this car is so cool, dodge actually made this car an option for being legal or illegal, legal is stage 1 and 2 turbos, and the available stage 3 turbo, is not street legal, thus for kicking out 370 ponies!
(i heard this from some dodge neon srt-4 owners and then i went to dodgeforum.com and looked at neon srt-4 owners and they said that mopar racing got 370 from it, so thats what i heard so dont go gettin mad at me bout it)

In my area, a lot of middle age, and older people drive Neons. It really pisses me off when I see them on the highway and they are doing 45 to 50 mph with a line of cars behind them. Don't they realize that their cars are slow and they need to get out of the way? Get off the highway if that's as fast as your car can go. And it never fails to have one pull out in front of me, or change lanes and get in front of me and drive 20 miles under the speed limit. I used to say, "Oh here comes another moron in a Neon!" Now my wife says the same thing as she hates these cars on the highway too.

When will you ever learn ludespeed?
Last I checked most Hondas are the same damn thing. Also, if you really want to get into it I really think that the Neon would be a better platform to modify than any Honda for one simple reason it has a closed deck engine and takes very well to being turbo-charged. I'm not just talking about the 2.4L I am talking about the 2.0L engines they put in the ugly first gens.
Your precious Hondas use open deck engines that don't like to be turbo-charged or modified at all. Honda did not design the majority of their engines with performance in mind. That includes the Prelude.
They may be butt ugly, but they are damn easy to make fast. Anyone denying that needs to do some more research before they make stupid comments like this. Then again this is something ludespeed should be used to by now.

when it comes to turbocharging a honda motor, it depends on your choice. some motors take VERY well to it (such as any integra aside from the Type R/GSR), the low compression of the b18b block makes it the ideal motor to turbocharge out of all honda motors. we all know that honda motors are just beasts waiting to be unleased (and when i say this im refering to the b series). they respond VERY well i/h/e and other mods esp. cam's and cam shafts. this dude may be raggin on "oh well hondas are only a 130+ hp in an economy car". you do know how the power to weight ratio works right? drop a b16a into a crx or other 4th gen and it will run 13's. thats only at 160 horse. open the intake and exhaust and your lookin at mid to high 12's. thats right, a 200 hp civic can run 11's. the 4th gen hatches and crx's are extremly light (1900 lbs???). i think that whole defense is a moot point.

No, I'm not saying that Hondas aren't worth working on because I think they are. I don't what car you modify, if you can make it reliable and fast then you have my respect. My point was that Honda blocks are weak because they are open decks. If you turbo-charge them you had better sleeve them as well or you're just asking for trouble.

Now Polygon. Honda motors ARE designed with performance in mind. Not nescecarilly turbos, but none the less. There are many Honda motors that can be tuned to run 12-14 psi without any trouble, and make alot of power to boot. Now, I'm sure neon engines can be made fast too, but its easier with a Honda simply becuase of the better aftermarket support, nothing else. As far as which engine is better, it really depends on what you think is better. Open deck or not, when you start throwing on some serious boost both engines will need to be sleeved. I like Honda's as a personal preference, and Prelude's happen to be my favorite flavor from Honda. Neons are no where near being my favorite car, but thats just me. Now, I know Hondas aren't your favorites as well, but if we liked the same thing what fun would this be?
Ludespeed501. Even though you may not like Neons, you don't have to say it's "pointless" to modify one. Neon's can be fast, but I agree with getting a better rounded car to start with rather than spending a load of money to make a car fast. Its all about personal opinions though.
Either way, I still don't like neons but I'll admit that its not pointless to modify one, and that they can be fast.

This is a discussion board; if you don't want to see a discussion then I suggest you go somewhere else. I am a moderator here and I am not out of line so please don't tell me what to do.
As for what I said about Honda engines not being performance minded. They aren't and just because you have a huge aftermarket for them doesn't make it so. The aftermarket is just a band-aid for a weak engine. Open decks are weak and I don't care if you're going N/A, F/I, or N2O a closed deck will fair much better than an open deck engine. That is a fact. I am not saying that you can't make power with a Honda engine and I'm not saying you shouldn't bother with one. They are good engines, but there are better options out there like the Chrysler common block, the 4G63, and the SR20DET and that is my opinion.
no offense but everyone is intitled to there own opinion. And just for ur info, I didn't buy my truck to race. i bought it because it is more practical and cost effecient than the camaro i had. Honestly, im sry if i seriously offended u in some way.
No, you didn't offend me, I just thought that your "closed minded" opinion was a useless one. Like you said, everyone is entitled to their own opinion and that was mine. The reason I brought up your Jimmy was because it seemed you weren't content with it stock considering that you have modified it and I just thought that a Neon was a much better candidate than a Jimmy for modifying.

No harm done. As for the jimmy, I'm just personalizing it , not making it a race car. Everything i have put on it (except the stereo) has been to make it more effecient or safe. I will try to have a more open mind in the future. Again I appoligize.

correct me if im wrong but the only civic that comes with a 2L is the SI, all the other ones are 1.7 or 1.6 single cam economy vtec. btw, what do preludes come with from the factory??
the EP3 (new civic SI) comes with the k20a engine with the new I-VTEC. EK si's came with the b16a2 dual cam. USDM civics never used a 1.7 litre displacement, your thinking about the USDM DA integra's. some of those used a b17, but its dual cam. and as far as i know, theres no "economy vtec" or "racing vtec" or anything. vtec is vtec. variable valve timing and lift electronic control. its what makes the vtec motors pull all the way to redline.

I relize that the the civic Si's up untill 00 had the b16a motor in them, what i was refering to was the 01+ with the 160hp 2L and the goofy shifter. civics up untill recently came with a 1.6 single cam and the new ones come with a 1.8 single cam. and vtec differs depending on the modle of the car, for example vtec on a civic d16 isnt near as aggressive as lets say a b18c5 or a f22. a civic is ment for economy and that is what the vtec is designed for, a s200 is a performer so the vtec is to increase performance through the rpms

When I saw the Portofino show car years ago (the prototype Neon) I thought it was cool. A better update on the classic VW than the New Beetle which turned out big and fat.
I've rented a few over the years and found them nimble and fun to drive, even with automatic. For reference, I also have a Corvette, Suburban and a couple of BMW 3 series.
And I've always been tempted by the SRT-4. Would have to go undercover with a spoiler-less deck lid and smaller rims to foil the fuzz.
