Hello all, im prolly breakin a million forum rules, so please forgive me beforehand, this is my first post.
i was warming up my car one morning, till 5 min later it suddenly died on me. i didnt think much of it so i turned the car on again, this time it stayed on for a shorter time, i repeated this like 4 more times, each time the car stayed on less than the last, now it dies imediatly after turning over with a sputtering sound if it turns on at all. the car had been running fine the day before, and weeks before, for the exeption of a "cranking" noise i would get when i shifted at lower revs, i figured this was caused by me letting the clutch(I forgot to mention in sig, that it is a stickshift) out too soon or being under reved.
now the car is in the shop and the mechanic cannot find what is wrong with it. Fuel pressure was checked and we have fuel, but mechanic says there is no spark, i changed the coil when i first got the car along with the spark plugs. everything else electric on the car works fine (CD player, headlights, instrument lighting, door lights) warning lights turn on when u try to turn it on but quickly turn right off, this is normal correct? so this made me count out the ECU as being a problem (Although i may be mistaken, that is why im asking for ur help) plz help me out this is my first car, got it less than a year ago, and i am already pressured to get rid of it. thank you beforehand for your quick help and replies.

Were you racing it around the night before? Do any of the cylinders get spark at all? Does anything happen at all when you try to start it now? You may want to have the cam position sensor checked. Hope this helps, let me know it this helps.

lol no i dont raxe its an RS i dont wanna humiliate myself ^^, it cranks but it doesnt turn, its been around a month and the mechanic cant find out what it is, and hes hcarching me per hour JUST to find out what it is, i can only imagine what the repair will be, i just went to a dealer and they said it mayhave "crankwalk", and they also said, replacing the engine is the only solution to that, the stupid mechanic said its was the ECu at 1st so i went out there and got me an ECU, 300 dllrs down the drain, i might just have ut towed again back to my house.

Did you get the Cam Position Sensor checked. My talon with DOHC 2.0 ran fine I drove it hard and raced with some trucks that thought they were cool. But it ran fine all the time until one day I drove it home and then the next morning only 2 cylinders were firing. I was stumped I checked everything. It turned over and fired gas on all of them and my exhast started getting wet from the gas going throught the middle 2 cylinders. Luckily my brother had a talon DOHC 2.0 so I pulled parts from his to check mine. Well I checked just about everything then I pulled the cam position sensor off of my talon and got one from a friend who had one laying. Switched them and finally got it running right. After that it ran like just before.

I'm betting this mechanic probably works mostly on old car and trucks. So he doesn't really know about all of the parts on these kind of cars. Find someone around where you live who actually works on and knows import cars. Tell him your problem get his imput and get his oppinion. Oh yea Cam Position Sensors aren't cheap so before you buy one try to find someone who is parting out a talon/eclipse/laser like yours and maybe get it for a steal of about 20 to 50 bucks.

hmm i think i heard him say he checked the cam sensor already, he insists in that it is the ECU, i already got him one, but seems that this one is no good either and its a no refund, so im stuck getting another from these ppl while i can get one for 75 bucks off fellow 2gnt'ers, there goes those 300 bucks.....

Don't trust this mechanic I think he is just screwing you over man. I would either take everything to another mechanic or take it to a dealer so they can run a scan and find the problem right off the bat or at least narrow it down. You may be able to fix it yourself and save some money.

well thanks for all ur help, but keep it comin, if u guys are from south cali, or now some one send me a message, its 78 bucks for the dealer to check it, and 40 for the tow, but im not sure if they'll allow me to tow it from the shop to the dealer and back to my house for JUST 40, since they have to re-rig it itll prolly be 80, so, ther goes that, plus i need to pay the mechanic before i can get the car out so...its not looking gewd. ill try to keep u guys updated.

When you go to the mechanic you should complain. Paying the charge for dealer to scan it will be worth it. When they find the problem you may be able to fix it yourself with very little cost. Get back to me on what the problem is when they find it.
