my uncle gave me his 89 lincoln town car....5.0 L and tranny with 168000 miles on it. i wanna do a total rebuild on it. is there any web sites that can give me a walk thru? i think im gonna run into some problems when i get to cam tolerances and duration and stuff like that. is this a good motor to start with? can i use the crank or should i get a new one? i think i'm gonna start with a .030 bore since the kits come with oversize pistons. summit has a fel-pro rebuild kit for $279.00. whats the difference between forged and hypereutectic pistons? besides about $200.00. i know the biggest difference on the lincoln motor is the heads.

I don't know how good your motor is but sometimes its easier to just get a new motor. I had a buddy with a 95 with bad rings and rather than rebuilding it he got a whole new long block for well under 2000. It has GT40P heads from the explorer and forged connecting rods and some other things I can't remember at the moment. I could get the name of the company if you are interested, but I really don't know much about the cam tolerances and what not.

In my opinion the money it would cost for a new engine you could build that older engine how you wanted it and it could be pretty mean, but it depends on what your looking to do with it stock ,drag etc.If you have never built a engine the I wouldnt recommend it there is alot of tolerances to take into consideration if you want it to last.(im an ASE cert.mechanic) later
