99 Jetta Bose Radio Problems

I am having a couple of issues with my bose radio and I need some help knowing what to do...I get terrible reception with this radio (by terrible, I mean that I only get one station). I was not sure if it was the antenna or the radio itself that is causing the problem. Also, my front driver and passenger speakers do not work (only the tweeters on the driver's side are working). What could cause this and is there a way for me to fix it? If I replace the radio, will this solve the problem, or is this an underlying wiring issue? Thanks for any help that you can offer.

Sounds like the connector in the back came loose. Its really packed behind the radio...

Well, the radio itself seems to be working (I am now getting better reception), but the speakers are still not working. The plugs are tight, so do you have any suggestions?

Check the balance/ fader -play with the controls in case they are just a little corroded

Take the radio out and unplug and plug it back in a few times to make sure you are getting a good connection being careful to pull on the plug not the wires -that connection is exposed to some heat so the contacts can form oxidation...

Check the fuse(s) on the radio.

Yeah, that didn't seem to help with the speaker problem? Does anyone have any other ideas?

A quick test is to plug aother radio in and see how it works.

Another option is to pull the door panel/speaker and plug in a known good speaker -to make sure its not a bad speaker.
