Low craftsmanship...

I washing the 2002 Blazer we just bought and giving it a good detail.Im a neat freak when it comes to cars being clean (get behind crap with a toothbrush)

Really suprised me on how low of craftsmanship the blazer really has.Just little things that I can probaly fix myself but damn they really without care just slapped these things together.

2002 was the last year of production for the Blazer right?Im guessing they just wanted to hurry up and finish since they had there new line of trailblazers.

Ive always hated how auto manufactors are.You buy one of there vehicles that they and motortrend brag about. Then they come out with a new line or change something about the vehicle and say "The all new xxx SUV is better than our last"

Its all a "Trade in your 2 year old car for a new and improved one" Gimic

Things that were IMO poorly put together or built.

Headlights and chrome grill strip our loose enough that I can wiggle them.Again not a huge deal I can probaly tighten it up.Its never been in a wreck I can tell by the bolts and carfax.

Lisence plate rear lights. Both are really loose.I really cant even see how to tighten those.Any input on how to would be great.

The drivers side visor didnt line up with the visor clip.I had to unscrew it and wedge it over and retighten.

Molding and weatherstripping is not to bad I guess but you can pull it up if you pull hard enough.Like the one on the outside of the windows.

Anybody know how to take the CD holder in the middle console out for cleaning?

All those things are normal on lots of manufacturers cars.

I think you are starting to nitpick. Nothing wrong with all those things on my truck.

Last year of the Blazer is 2005.

Starting to nitpick?

I love Chevorlett but this is really my wifes SUV.

I love the whole american pride, big displacement thing.

Im more into imports myself when it comes to daily driving. They really just have more to offer.I guess my problem is Im comparing this Blazer to the Imports that Ive owned?

Dont bash me but its true.

Thanks

Most imports have a higher cost of ownership because they depreciate so much. And that's despite maintenance and fuel costs.

For example, over a 5 year period a 2001 Honda Accord LX would cost more to own than a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix STP. And I don't think anyone in their right mind would tell you that the accord is better than the stp.

Check out the TOC "Total Cost of Ownership" on vehicles 2001 and newer at www.edmunds.com

Imports might have blown domestics away in the 80s, but that just isn't the case anymore.

You lost me.

Are you saying it cost more to maintenance and fuel a Honda over a pontiac?

If so could you better explain?

Also why would you compare a base model like the LX to the top model STP?

In the same class and I believe price would be something like the Acura CL Type-S 6spd. to the Pontiac STP.

Thanks

I seriously doubt a Honda is more expensive to own than a Pontiac, And I am not being biased at all....Its a fact. Not trying to brag, but my 96 Civic looks nearly brand new while both of my parents cars (2000 Chry. Sebring and 2000 Pont. Montana) look like trash and have had more problems then I can remember. I bought my car for $4,500 at an auction....original MSRP was $13,000....Blue Book is almost $7,000. Still worth that much after 10 years? You'd be lucky to get $1,000 for a Pontiac.

The basis is, you might have half the problems with an inport but when something does happen, it costs twice as much as the equivelent repair on a domestic.

Those rumors of a Import being more to repair come from people that dont know how to work on there own cars.

I know most people dont know how to change spark plugs and alternators etc... But alot of people go to the Honda dealer or some redneck that charges an insane amount of money to repair.

As far as parts go.Just like a domestic you just have to know how to look for parts and get the right prices.

Ive worked on Chevys,Fords,Dodges and Hondas.I have to say the Honda is the easiest to work on.They are very simple running machines compared to domestics.

Exactly. Thats the main reason I own one. Of course its slow as hell. But its easy to fix. Id rather be able to keep my car running well easily then go fast. Its a great car to learn on.

Well yeah its a great daily driver.

If it wasnt for the performance motors (B Series) that honda made I would have never owned one.

I bought my 92' Civic for $2500.Clean paint, interior and no rust.Slapped in a Integra B18C and I/H/E and about a grand in suspension.Ran a best of 14.1 in the 1/4.Drove it to 210,xxx and was still getting 28-34 MPG.

For every domestic vehicle there is a Import that will out do it.

I am in no way bashing Honda, they make great vehicles or any of the imports as well.

Everyone knows domestic car part prices are cheaper than imports even if you are doing the work yourself.

I know this, I work on my friends two imports with him.

I dunno parts for my car arent that expensive, but I will pay more for something i know is quality.

I think you are wrong blazerlt, I am an ASE certified auto tech and I am seeing the prices on american parts getting higher and higher every year. I needed to put an alt. on my blazer and my cost was $180.00!! I can sell an alt. for a honda all day long for about $220.00 and that is making money!!

Those rumors of a Import being more to repair come from people that dont know how to work on there own cars.

And the rumors that domestics break down all the time and are a pain in the ass come from people that don't maintain their cars properly.

Are you saying it cost more to maintenance and fuel a Honda over a pontiac?

No, I'm saying the total cost of ownership is lower, after factoring in maintenance + fuel costs + car payments + depreciation.

Also why would you compare a base model like the LX to the top model STP?

In the same class and I believe price would be something like the Acura CL Type-S 6spd. to the Pontiac STP

My point was that it costs LESS to own an STP than it does a base model accord. But whatever you say....

A 2001 Acura CL Type S would cost $33,649 over a 5 year period (depreciation + financing + insurance + taxes and fees + fuel + maintenance + repairs).

A 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP would cost $27,764 over the same 5 year period.

Still worth that much after 10 years? You'd be lucky to get $1,000 for a Pontiac.

I bought my Sunfire for 5 grand and sold it for 4.5 a year later. My first car (a Trans Am) I picked up for $450 and was offered $700 a month later just for the turbine rims. Now you can't find a decent TA for less than 8k.
