Acceleration Troubles

Hi all,
I've got a 1992 Toyota Ceres (which is basically a Corolla under a different name). When I'm in 3rd, 4th or 5th gear and put my foot down hard on the accelerator (to overtake someone for example) the car makes a strange revving noise like the clutch is still in or something, the rev counter goes up but the car doesn't speed up at all. If I accelerate slowly it seems to be okay but as soon as I put my foot down it does this. Is this a sign of a slipping clutch or is it some other problem?
Thanks heaps for your help,
Treens

Your clutch sounds like its doing the same thing as mine is. I have a 91 corolla and the clutch in it needs replaced. I floor it and the tach goes up and the engine revs up cause the clutch is slipping.

the clutch is on it's way... you need clutch disc, pusher plate and bearing...

My friend recieved his mid 90's Neon with 190k on the origional clutch, motor, tranny and it doesn't so much as have a scratch on the paint(some fading). He has close to 200k on it, now and it still runs strong.

Just felt like replying ot your baised sig.

since dodge is opposite of quality, your friends neon MUST be a LEMON...

and don't forget, mines a 89, if i had a 95 with no rust that wouldn't be so darn rare now wouldn't it?
