Blown Shocks

I just bought a 95 gst with a blown rear left shock. I am just going to replace both rear shocks and I was wonder whats the best setup for under $300 for 2 rears?

Probably Tokico Illuminas, if you'll upgrade the rest of your suspension later. If you don't plan on upgrading your front shocks at a later date I wouldn't bother putting anything better than stock in.

I would upgrade all four at once, with springs. Then again, money is always a problem.

I looked up some tokico illuminas for my 95 eclipse, but they are non-adjustable. My car is already 2 inches from the ground, am I able to adjust the rears to my previous settings? I am confused.

no Illuminas are preset at i think 1.75 inch drop from stock. your front end at its lowest point would probbaly be around 3" but the back will sit higher, its because of the way the car is made. smaller shocks up front than in rear.

you would have to buy something more expensive to be able to adust the ride hight. if you have 1 grand go look for a good deal on some Tein coil over system , with the right pair you could adjust it your self.....i wouldnt spend that much money though just to change the ride hight lol.

i have Tokico hp blue's, got mine off E-bay with springs too for liek 385 or somhin like that.

but ya if your not going to upgrade the front it wouldnt be worth it to upgrade just the rear.

1) What were you running in the rear, what are you running in the front?

2) Shocks don't lower your car, springs do.
3) Illuminas are made for stock ride height, and running them at anything other than stock voids their warranty.
4) Tokicos adjust dampening and rebound together, on five different settings.

5) It doesn't have to be expensive to adjust ride height, plenty of shoddy coilover systems do it :) Ground Controls would also do it, if you wanted something that didn't suck.

oh my setup came with springs. i didnt realize that without them they were for Stock ride hight. thats probably why my cars rides 1 3/4's inches lower than stock, which in my opinion is stupid i didnt know that 1 inch and 3/4's would make such a huge diference. i hate how low m car rides in the front. it sux, im a god damn snow plow lol.

ive nevr had blow shocks before nor seen them. can anyone tell me how to tell when your shocks are bad ?? im sure its one of those things that youd have to be extreamly stupid to not be able to tell. but just outa inexperience i would like to know. thanks.

The job of shocks is to absorb the up and down motion of the spring. When your shocks are bad, the car will keep bouncing for a longer time after you hit a bump or something.

or if you start to hear a clunking noise in the suspension system if you hit a bump or something. push down on each corner of the car and listen to that shock/strut and if it clunks....replace it.

Your shock can also leak fluid if a seal is bad. This is what I assume people mean when they say the shock is blown. I have a leaking shock on my car right now and you can see the fluid on the sides of the shock.

Did I miss something? "my car is 2 inches from the ground" Does this mean you are running lowering springs and stock shocks? No wonder they are blowing.

As was said, fluid leaking is bad. If you suspect the shock is bad, place weight on the car and watch the rebound. Then, pull the shock and test it between your hands.
