Cavalier timing help

Hi I have 92 cavalier 2.2 motor.I changed the timing gears and chain and tensioner and someone told me I could just put it in the same way it came out so I did and it runs rough sounds out of time .need help to get it back in time . any help and advice thank you very much Ron
