Broken shock or spring?

I have a 99 Dodge Sport Caravan and it looks like I have broken a leaf or shock. Do Caravans have shocks? I thought they had springs or leafs but when I looked under it all I saw was one leaf or suspension leaf and what looked like shocks. Two things have happened in the last week one I bought a small boat and had a trailer hitch hooked up to the van, the boat is only 1150 pounds so it should be fine to tow the boat. I also rubbed up against my father’s bumper that kind of bound up my van before I realized what had happened, what I mean by binding up is it kind of lifting the side of the van that is now sitting low. The only reason I wonder what did it is if some how the weight of the boat did this then I may need to replace the shocks (if that’s what I have) with a heavy-duty shocks. When I think about it this problem may have happened before the boat or the rubbing into the car, maybe one of the two things just made it worse. Could someone advise me on if this van has shocks or struts, and how much am I looking at to have a mechanic replace. Thanks for any help……

Turns out it was the way it was parked in the yard! I moved it and it still looked broke but when I pulled it out of the yard all is fine!

Sounds like you have the load leveling shocks on your LXi.
Most of us have the standard shocks on the back. They are much cheaper. I found a site that has Koni shocks and struts way cheaper than the local stores it is w w w . s h o x. c o m
