Exhaust question

A while back Iwas looking for an exhaust for my Blazer. Someone recommened Ravin. Now my problem is, I can not find a single web page for them. How can I get one? None of the local shops around town have heard of Ravin so they can not get it for me.

Also, anyone actually have one of these on their Blazer? If so how does it sound? I found some reviews for Ravin that sounded pretty good but no sound clips for them.

Thanks

Ahh, thanks for the link. Sounds pretty good. I have some money set aside so this may be my next purchase!

I also was recently looking an exhaust system for my 98 blazer. I got on here and seen the ravin exhaust system. Just like in your case, the local exhaust shops have never heard of it. But i found out you can go to you local midas and they have it. I have not installed it yet but i also think it will sound great.

What is the price for one of the installed on average? Can not find a single person who has talked about price, just that it sounds good and is better than Flowmaster.

One more question. It has to do with intake and instead of starting a new thread I figure intake/exhaust pretty much the same thing so I will ask here. I am looking at getting a K&N FIPK (Cold Air Intake) but they are kind of pricey @ $200+.

Does a cheaper unit like the on in this Ebay auction work? I used this link because they include a K&N cone filter unlike the others I have seen on Ebay. What benefits does the K&N FIPK have over this cheaper kit using a K&N filter?

Edit**

Might help if I posted the link eh?

The Midas shop here will install one for $225
Advantage Brake & Muffler will do it for $180
Just call some shops and see what they are charging.

I'm going with the K&N because I am getting it for about $5 above the shops cost..haven't used one of the Ebay versions, sorry.

I have called every shop in town and only one knew of Ravin but could not get it. Midas said they no longer carry Ravin. The manager said they are switching companies and will not be getting any more in as well.

The ravin website www.goravin.com is no longer up so I assume they went broke and closed shop. I can not find any on Ebay or any other website. I used google for quite a while and came up with nothing.

Any other suggestions for an exhaust with the same sound as the Ravin?

Try to find one before they are completely gone.

I guess I will hit up www.midas.com and ask them if they show ANY Midas location with one and just pay for them to ship it to me. The local Midas had a couple left in inventory but nothing that could be used on my truck =(

They should be able to bring one in.

Ok, Midas will not respond. My local Midas manager said he could not get one for sure. All the online sites that advertise Ravin say they no longer carry it and do not know how to get in touch with them. The Ravin website is gone so I can pretty much say that no one will be getting any more Ravin exhausts. Anyone have any other suggestions for a system that has the sound of the Ravin? Please do not say Flowmaster because I (and many others) have had one in the past and after a few months they sound like complete crap.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Have them at least try to get one in from their warehouses. They will have remaining units there.

Just because the company shuts down does not mean the units in the warehouses vanish immediately.

Well everyone I contact says they do not do business with Ravin anymore. I have no idea how to get in touch with Ravin since their pages are down. I asked Midas and three web pages that offered Ravin for contact info and they all basically said the same thing, "Once we stop doing business with a company we no longer keep their contact info, try google"

I have tried google for 3 days and can not find anything!@!

I am talking about Midas, not Ravin.

I called 7 seperate Midas locations (still no reply from Midas.com) and I got responses that ranged from We no longer carry Ravin" to "Yeah I got Ravin but not for your truck and I do not know if I can get them anymore because they are not on our supplier list"

So Ravin is dead. A local shop around here said "Incinerator" (spelling might be off) was just as good as Ravin sound and performance wise. I asked him if they had the problems like Flowmasters about rotting out in a year or so and he said they did not. Said they had the same design and quality as Ravin.

Anyone heard of Incinerator?

Never heard of them.....

Well I went with the "Incynerator" that my local shop had. I am happy with it. I paid a total of $109 to purchase the muffler and get it installed. Not too shabby. The guy recommended a dual setup for my 4.3 and said he could do it CHEAP so I think in the next two weeks I might get the 2nd one and have them change me to dual. I also have my intake coming so overall my truck should sound pretty damn good when I am done with it.

Here is a quicktime video (9mb) so you can hear how it sounds. I do not have a sound only recording device so I just used my Kodak since it captures sounds pretty good. Now it has only been on the truck for 24 hours so I have been told by numerous people that it should get a tad more throaty in the next 2 weeks or so.

Putfile is not the best server so give it a min to load (especially if you are on dial up!)

Well decided what I am going to do now for sure. I am very, very happy with my new exhaust. I am buying a second muffler and having the cat removed and running straight pipes from the manifold to a true dual set up. May be a tad extreme but I am getting a killer deal on the work and it will be different. I have yet to see a Blazer in my area with anything like this. My new intake should be in by the end of this week as well.

Once this is done I will record another video to show the difference in sound. If anyone is interested I mean.

Waste of money bro, complete waste.

You will loose a lot of backpressure which is needed.

Having the cat removed? How about the 4 O2 sensors? Where are they going to go?

Makes me want to shift off my duff and find a friend to hold my camera for me. I have a FloPro on mine that cost me only $75 installed... (Though I had some other stuff done while the guy had his TIG out for me, so the total bill was a bit more + chrome, slash-cut tip) I said it before, and I will say it now - she sounds like a tricked Tahoe w/V-8 with one of these on there. Had it for about a year now and still sounds like the day it went on - there's nothing inside to shift or blow out. I will make believers of you all yet. ;) Hmmmm, gotta shift my install of Cool Edit Pro onto the laptop with my studio Sennheiser attached to it...(think think think) I might have some audio clips over the weekend for y'all. Your rig's sounding real good. I'm diggin' it! :grinyes:

Yes< Need Clips!!!

I will snag the laptop out from under my workbench at the job and install the sound recording software on it tonight when I get home... by then, I hope the streets are clear enough to give you all objective sound bite runs. Her tone and manner changes with how much you lay into the gas pedal. Smooth, 0-25 MPH side street runs just sound menacing. 0-40 runs in traffic on the main strips gets attention. 0-70 MPH up a steep 10% grade on-ramp onto the local 540? Death's come for your ass, and it drives a blue, classic Blazer! :evillol:

Dude, windows has a built in recorder.

Just grab a microphone.

You're going to soon find out that there is the normal way of doing things, and then there is the "Wolfox way" - especially when it comes to audio. It's a hobby...and though hard to believe - no, I am not professionally paid for it. Just grab a mic he says... (Polishes his Sennheiser) Hmmmm, okay. :) (Installing C.E.Pro whilst typing this out.)

At the dealership I work at, a technician is driving a 96 s-10 with the 4.3 and had his removed. No error lights on the dash and a much better sound/hp gain with his aftermarket set up. He just cut the wires to the O2 sensors. Plus even if I do get a warning light, there is a bypass available online for cheap $$. Can just get that to take care of the O2 sensors.

Sorry, but if you think you can just plug in O2 simulators into all 4 O2 sensor harnesses and call it a day, you got another thing comin.

The O2 simulator can only be used on the POST CAT sensor. You can't use them on the two than monitor the exhaust for the left and right banks.
