Hello,

I have a 99 VW Beetle 2.0 AEG engine. I have been having some problems with the a/c. The compressor kicks on and off as you drive. I cleaned all the relays, Changed out the fuse box above the battery, and the low side pressure is fine.

I have been doing some reading and I found out that the New Beetle has a high pressure sensor that has the ability to turn off the a/c clutch in cases like the if the car is too hot. And I have noticed that it really doesn't cut out at night.

I know the Beetles have a special antifreeze g-12 Pentosin that last for 100,000 miles or five years. My vehicle is at the 70,000 mile mark but its been over 5 years. So could the only problem be that the antifreeze needs to be changed?

Any help would be appreciated!

Water pumps are a very common failure on 2.0 and 1.8t engines. The impeller breaks off causing the car to overheat, yours might just be on the edge of breaking off to the point where it will still pump coolant but not efficient enough.

Try running the ac on max and hose down the condenser on the front of the car and see if the temp drops from the vents . IF it does then theres something causing blockage in the system (possible h-block clogged or condenser clogged would cause ac to work for a while untill pressure gets too high and shuts off ac)
