Slight Miss when AC turned on

I own a 94 Escort with a 1.8 5 speed. When I turn the Air on there is a slight miss of the engine right at about 3000 rpm. It has new plugs and wires and is in really good running condition and I maintain it regularly.
Thanks, J

Here's my wild guess. When you turn the A/C on the additional power required will make the engine's fuel demand increase. The increased fuel demand is causing a miss so I'd first check the fuel filter. Only so much gas can move through a restricted fuel filter. If it's an old fuel filter then change it anyway. Sure wouldn't hurt. When I worked on the diesel engines in tanks for the Army we'd do a little test. We'd put the tranny in drive and mash the 'gas' pedal to the floor. This created a situation where the max amount of fuel was needed. If the engine missed then it generally indicated dirty fuel filters. So I'm thinking the same for your car. :2cents:
