headlight issue

What's up folks? Does anyone know if it's safe to put low-beam headlights into the high-beam socket? My low-beams only work if I pull the "light switch bar" toward me (as if I'm going to turn on the high beams) a small amount. For a quick fix I was thinking about switching the bulbs since I rarely use high-beams anyway. What do you guys think? Thanks.

did headlights become expensive?

What does that even mean?

it means why don't u spend $5 for new low beams.

Because the bulbs are fine. Like I said, when I pull the bar back, the low beams come on. It's not a bulb problem. It's an electrical problem within the steering column that I don't have time to fix right now. That's why I'm asking about a quick fix.

I'm not sure about safety, but I'm pretty sure that the low beam and high beam/DRL sockets were different on my '97.

I just hope there's not too much voltage going through the high beam socket that's gonna fry my low beam bulbs. That's the only thing I'm worried about.

You shouldn't have a problem with the volt/amp specs. The pwr supply system to the lights will (should) only supply the current the bulbs require, and I expect that should also remain stable at 12V+-.
Now there may be a problem with the connectors design; for as you know the bulbs catch pins are different for twin and single filament bulbs, in whih case some wiring mod may be the answer.

Thanks for the reassurance Tookie. I'll take a look at the connectors' designs and see what I can do. Something I just thought of though...aren't the high beams angled differently, if so, will it still seem like I have my high beams on? I'm trying not to blind everyone else on the road. Thanks again.

I would expect them to be config'd for hi-beam operation. This could cause a problem with regards to beam coverage and affect oncoming drivers. There is one option, somewhat (tacky??) but creative none the less. Remember those half-moon headlight covers? Well you could use some aluminium duct tape to ensure most of the light stays down in the low beam region. Done right, it might even look uniquely original!!
For a temp mod till repair, it'll do.
Got a digital cam? Like to see the results.
