2002 2.4 TC engine
It sounds like metal vibrating off of metal and it is coming from the casing of the timing chain. We were told it is pretty common by our mechanic but it is bothering us. It only happens when you first get on the gas from about 1800 to 2700 RPMs. Then it is like the chain tightens up and is fine again and it is usually worse at the lower gears. We were thinking the tightener on the timing chain could be bad or not adjusted correctly causing the chain to be slack at first and rub against the casing causing that noise until it gets enough RPMs to tighten properly. I was hoping for any input or if anyone has had or heard of this problem in cavaliers. Also curious to as whether it'd be worth taking apart to fix or not worry about it. And i was also wondering if anyone new of a link where i can buy an engine book for the 2.4 TC engines in 2002 cavaliers.

look what appears to be the noise comming from ur engine is a loose timing chain
and is because tensioner is worn out
it isimperative that u have it checked because if the timing chian falls apart
will mess up the engine badly (i.e pistons hitting valves etc)
is not a costly repair and will give u piece of mind
also.... if timing chain get a little loose it will skip teeth on the cm gear
and will be out of timing wich is not good either
have it checked and get piece of mind
