Fails to release hood latch, as in cable not working, but is connected, so I was wondering if there was a trick to get it open.
Thanks,

if its not working at all, as in never you have a real problem. if the cable has snaped you are screwed. if the cable is ok but just streched see if pulling the kick pad can gain access to the cable itselfgrab the cable with a pair of needle nose,( needle nose visegrips are best) and pull on the cable itself. if the cable is just streched it should pop it open. if the release is broke you may have some trouble i wouldnt want.
ether way good luck

Yes, thanks, it was a stretched cable, not broken, so I dismounted the lever latch and rerouted the cable slightly and reinstalled it and it worked, so thanks for the help.
Speaking of help, I am new owner of Fiero BeastMaster, so for those who know Fieros, maybe you can answer a few more questions. The chassis is 86 GT 5 speed. I cannot seem to find first gear half the time, and the other half, no problem, seemed a bit strange as I go through every gear to see which combo allows an easy first gear selection, but not having any luck?
As far as headlamp motors, are these fused side to side, or is it always the motor when one doesn't flip open. Headlight lights, no noise coming from motor, yet it looks new? Just looking for a few hints to tame this beast. (g)

the cable shifting system on these cars and all of gms other front wheel drive systems at best SUCK! but when adjusted properly the should work ok. try adjusting cables first there should be an adjustment on each end of the cable.
head kight motors are a problem on these cars. its posible you have a bad relay on the side of the motor. turn headlight on and turn that knob on the top but dont hold on to it to tight, if the relay is bad the headlight will pop right up. and that knob will start turning real quick. if that doesnt start the bugger running check for juice to the motor with a test light just unplug plug going yo th motor, if there is juice to the motor if there is chances are the motor is bad, if there is no juice,to be sure they are bad unplug them and run a jumper to the affending head light.

Thanks a million, I will try your suggestions as soon as the weather cools down. (g) Use to build race cars and race them, so it has been a while since I have turned a wrench. (g) I really appreciate your help, thanks.

...also check the fluid reservior as the Fiero manual is GM's "zero tolerance" clutch.
you should always get the grinding the first time going into reverse (unless you double clutch), but the other gears should be stiff with the close shift, and the fact that Pontiac spec'ed these clutches with literally no play room.
a sweating and/or leaking slave cylinder could also be a culprit;
but yes, if the clutch fluid is topped off with clean DOT3, then stretched cables sounds about right...
