I would be willing to do the body paint and CF work but thats a nerve racking build. i dont know if i would touch it. not for an owner.

Oh my god I would love to do that. To make a exact replica for an owner of a Ferrari that I could study?

Sigh....

I just don't know enough (any?) people who own Ferraris.

Are you going to build a replica of the real car? What's the colour?

Commissions can be stressful. I've done a few and i'm always thinking in the back of my mind about how slow it's going and if the client is going to like it or not.

I say go for it though. Judging from the completed pics in your gallery, you shouldn't have a problem.

99civichic
07-22-2005, 02:43 PM
His is red. He also has a maroon metallic Murcielago (which I might get to do as well...but matching the color?!?) and... *gasp* ...a Mclaren F1.

Comissions don't bother me that much, but there's a big difference between a box-stock Revell kit of a 2002 Corvette and...the Tamiya Enzo. Honestly, I don't think my skills are up to the challenge. Something like this really makes you question your skills. (and looking at my gallery, how do you know I'm not just a really good photographer? lol)

I'm thinking I'll build mine and his side by side,
1) so if I break something or screw something up, I'll have a replacement part
2) so I can test stuff out on mine and know how to do his when I get to it, and
3) so I won't have to go through this twice.

Which means my Enzo will have to be red, but that's okay.

The tamiya one or the revell one? Good luck Kat!

Whumbachumba
07-22-2005, 02:50 PM
The tamiya probably. Looks like you need to get another one if he didn't supply the kit. I wish you the best of luck in the up coming challenge, but from seeing your models in person, know that you will do a great job at it.

I have a parts Enzo so if you need anything let me know! also i would be more then happy to CF the entire Monocoque and panels for you and send it to you. im CF crazy right now. let me know, this will lessen your burden and im quit good at it.

I just might take you up on that. I'll give it a shot myself first, as its something I've wanted to learn anyways, and if I just can't pull it off I'll have the spare...

So, is this a hard kit to build? Where can I find CF and what all will I need to make it work? Are there any tricks? Anything I need to watch out for? I'll be printing out every single "progress" thread I can find on this kit, hope yall don't mind.

He owns an oil company. That's all I know.

I do know he has something like a 1:12 scale model of the McLaren, that McLaren gave him. I've never seen it, though.

Allright, cool.
About the cf, everything you need is decal softener, decal fastener a brush to poke the cf when it is soft into
egdes and so. after that youll need clear (tamiya x22, ONLY!) to cover the decals so they dont scratch and come off. I would recommend you to buy cf from either SAS or SMS, since the cf that is included in the enzo kit is really dark and has really weird texture. ( i did this kit some time ago and failed bigtime, and that is like very big :P still i am a rookie and i was too confident)

Go for it, you'll be fine!
Use your nervousness to your advantage! Adrenalin is always good :)
Having said that, my Enzo and SMS kit have been sitting in my workshop for 7 months now waiting for me to pluck up courage - maybe my problem is that nobody wants to PAY me to do it :naughty: Hmm have to think about that....

Cool... Tell him you want a full track day with his enzo, and you will then build his car in scale model form for him..

I've got the enzo kit to build.. I took a look in the box, a few time now, and just put it away.. It has to be the most complicated kit I've ever looked at.. I'm sure it's not that bad, but it looks it from the start..

Good luck though..

Once you start putting the doors together and the body on the chassis, it looks like a normal kit. Just getting everything lined up is going to be a problem, I've yet to paint a part on that model. It's just sitting on the shelf, next in line to be worked on.

No, it's in Midland. It's no man's land there.

I've decided I'll do it, as long as he's not in a big rush. I think I can have it done this year, but I have to see how classes go next semester before I dole out my spare time to picky Enzo owners.

Are we talking about the 1/12 scale pricey wee beauty here?

99civichic
07-25-2005, 09:36 AM
Well, I was talking with Will and he thinks the 1:12 or whatever scale the person already has is a model of the Enzo. I thought it was the McLaren, since he bought that new (yes! the Enzo was used! 7 miles worth of used! or something rediculous like that) but...I may be wrong. All I know is, he has a huge model of one of the two.

The one I will be building for him is the Tamiya Enzo. The kit has already been started, he had his mechanic building it, but the guy just doesn't have the time.

Isn't there a really detailed die-cast model he can buy? If he is rich enough to buy a real one why not just buy this http://www.hlj.com/product/TAM23205 ?

99civichic
07-25-2005, 03:32 PM
I think he already has that one...it came with the car...Besides, maybe he wants one he can put on his desk...

Besides, just because he's rich enough to buy a real one doesn't mean he wants to blow $500 on a model of it. Rich people don't get rich or stay rich buying whatever they want!

I think you're extremely lucky. I would love to tackle a project like this, it would force me to build it super clean, and actually finish it too. I always start off with the best intentions and then get in a rush.

If you're really worried about it, the best strategy is to break it down. Build each sub assembly as if it were an individual model. Do the wheels and tires and don't worry about anything else until they are DONE. Then start a whole new model - the shocks. Then another completely seperate model - the motor.

If you do it like that, mentally seperating each part, you'll be more likely to really pay intense attention to each one, and make a very detailed (and more importantly) very clean model.

If that makes any sense.

Plenty of you seem worried about the enzo kit! I don't know why.
I did this as my third ever kit and it's easy.
The tamiya kit is so well made it all slots together nicely - shouldn't be feared, enjoy it!

Good luck, enjoy the building! Don't listen to the other muppetts, if I had an enzo I wouldn't let the guy building a model of it drive it!

It's an easy kit to make!

You dont know this owner. Not sure on how much of a chance there is but there is a chance. She just has to ask nice enough. When you have the cars he does, the Enzo is just another driver...

GIRL!! Not guy :P

There is about a 98% chance of a ride, I'm not going to put odds on actually driving the thing because honestly I'm not sure if I want to, it's a scary beast! I hear it shifts itself at 8000 RPM...You know, I wonder if I can even reach the pedals? I'm not even gonna ask. However, if keys were tossed to me and the door was open, well...who knows?

Thanks for all the support, guys. I will sure need it. Now I need a catchy name for the progress thread...Terrible Twos maybe? I will be attempting a dual build...

.....98% chance of a ride......a scary beast!

 :cwm27:

Sorry, had to be done!

Now I know it's a 1/24 I want to know why the large majority repliers to this post seem to see this build as something 'scary'. Not having a dig - all of you guys know I'm a mere noob - just want to know why I should steer clear of it?

99civichic
07-26-2005, 03:13 PM
Well, when the owner can look at your model and then walk to his garage and point out your mistakes....that's kinda scary to me.

BTW, after going through some of the Enzo progress threads here, I am now officially taking donations for and/or of PE parts, detail kits, CF sheets, paint...whatever! :D

MPWR
07-26-2005, 04:07 PM
Donations??

So, let me get this straight. You want donations of or for detail parts for a model you're building for someone who owns a $650,000 car, and another one worth closer to $1,000,000.

If he wants this stuff on a model of his car, shouldn't he be able to pay for it?

99civichic
07-27-2005, 07:34 AM
Well, yeah, he can pay for it, but I can't, and I'm building mine at the same time. :D

It was a joke, because all that stuff is so darn expensive!

Besides, why does everyone assume that just because he's rich, he can and/or wants to buy everything?? I've said it before, you don't get rich or stay rich by being loose with your money.

uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, that is totally awesome!!!!!! I have always thought of commisioning my work. I know a lot of guys who like motorsports - F1, NASCAR, etc..... maybe one day. But a real Enzo owner!?? No pressure right! I wanted to build a '57 corvette for my dad, but at that time, i was in University and did not have the time. I dunno if he would appreciate it much now. I think everyone here is wanting to see some pics, dark or not, blurred or in focus... who cares!! It's an Enzo!! As one memeber said - and i am also speaking from experience - do each part seperately, one at a time. Focus on that one part and your Enzo will come out clean and beautiful. Good luck:)

If you have agreed on a price, get at least half the money up front. Just tell your client you need to be sure he (she) is serious about the deal since it takes a significant investment in your time. A deposit is appropriate. And dont start working until you get the money. A lot of people talk about wanting a model but when it comes time for money to exchange hands, then you find out who is serious.
I assume the owner has seen your work, otherwise they wouldnt have asked you to build a model for them. Dont worry about whether or not you're good enough. The owner has already decided you are.
BTW, forget about a drive in the Enzo. The owner
will offer you one if they want to.
Lecture over.

I've done a few commissions already. My usual asking price for a box-stock Revell kit is $40, and I've done at least 4 kits this way. This is the price I charged for the '96 Trans Am I built last year. No price has been discussed on the Enzo, and I honestly don't know that I will be paid for this. However, building this model is the least I can do for having access to his collection any time I want to see them; for being able to sit in and photograph all the cars, opening every door, playing with the Ferrari and McLaren toolkits, etc.
