I have a Cutlass Ciera that is having severte stuttering problems. I have had it in the shop twice, 1st time they replaced a fuel injector. 2nd time the Mass Air Flow Sensor (EXPENSIVE GUESS!!!). I took it to another garage for a diagnostic test and it showed a code that indicated motor mounts or tranny mounts. Sounded kinda weird. Need advice quickly before some other knuckle-dragger gets a hold of it!

I would be leaning toward bad coil packs.

You need to find an actual mechanic that knows how to diagnose car engines. A lot of things can cause stuttering. If anything else, take it to your local parts store and have them scan the codes for free. It should give you an idea of where to start looking for the problem(s).
BTW, I could be wrong but I've never ever heard of trouble codes for mounting.

Thanks Trappie. I went out last night and checked for obvious stuff. Coil packs were on my mind as well. I'll take it to Autozone for diagnostic test again.

That's the sad part diydoug, there are no real mechanics on the Mexican border. At least, I haven't found one. They are all shade tree mechanics, if you could find a shade tree in South Texas. I am going to AutoZone for a scan. Thanks. Ken

Is your check engine lite on? You dont need a code reader to pull codes from an 86. You can do that yourself with a paperclip.

Dude, don't take your car back to that one shop. Who the hell ever heard of a motor mount troublecode. I would try taking it to autozone to retreive codes for free.

2.5L 4cyl. engine? Buy 4 new spark plugs and install'em. I had the transmission fluid and filter changed at a crook shop and while it was there, they installed a "trick" gas fouled spark plug that would cause the engine to miss when you got on the loud pedal but idle smooth...it was a different plug than the set I'd installed months earlier. I started to call'em but I can't stand someone to lie to me. I just warn everybody I know here.
