Hey people,
After some info on the D15B VTEC series of motors...

Is it true that the D15 VTEC-E engine number begins with D15Z1?

What does the EG4.8 D15B VTEC(130hp performance version) engine number begin with? Possibly D15B8 or similiar?
This is the engine I am now sourcing and want to make sure it is the

What about the EK 3 Stage VTEC D15B motor?

Any help on these is very much appreciated!?!

Thanks in advance...

I am after a way of distinguishing the D15 VTEC-E (92hp) from the D15B VTEC(130hp) so I do not order the wrong one!
Can anyone help, or direct me in the right direction?

Valve covers?
Engine numbers?
Inlet manifold?
Something that is different without taking the valve cover gasket off and looking at it!?!
Thanks

jdm d15b vtec (that is what 91civicdxdude calls it in the FAQ) 125-130 hp... and I believe you can also order the ECU that came with it so you have the correct fuel maps while retaining the one wire o2 sensor...

K, the JDM versions of the D15B (and all other JDM engines) only have 4 characters on the stamp... So there is no way to tell the VTEC-E JDM D15B from the power implimentation of the D15B VTEC simply by reading the engine code... They are all 'D15B'... Only the US spec (and probably other markets, UKDM, EDM, ect) D15Bs (none of which are the power implimentation of VTEC in the US anyways) have a tailing number like the D15Z1, which is VTEC-E...

You can however check the head casting number, its above the exhaust manifold, it should be a P08 if its a power VTEC, not sure what the VTEC-E version is, but I assume P07 since its VTEC-E and the D15Z1's casting is P07... It may also be under the upper timing cover, tho this can be changed, the head casting cannot...

Heres a pic of my engine with the location of the head casting circled in red:

Also note that the VTEC-E version of the JDM D15B came from a Civic ETi, the power implementation from the Civic VTi (EG4)...

As for 3 stage VTEC on the EK D15B, its simple to tell these from the other models, theres 2 VTEC solenoids instead of one... And these only came in the 96+ models...

That should sort it out for me people.
The head casting saying P08 will be a dead giveaway...
Thanks again!
