Should I buy it?

Well I'm a 16 year old looking for my first car. I've always had a thing for Blazers. Just a few weeks ago, one poped up for sale on the road I live on and I've had my eye on it since.
First the price was set at $2,000. After a few weeks it went down to $1,500. Than yesterday I saw it down to $1,000. So now I'm really interested.
So Today I call the guy and ask him a few questions. and after my questions I said "so you're down to $1k" and he told me he would get rid of it for $600

Miles: 185k

Hows it run: It idles rough under 20 but over 20 it's fine. He and my step dad said it was a loose vacum thing or something like that.

How's that A/C: Just needs Charged

Year: 1993

So the only thing I didn't like was the miles...everthing else was fixable. I don't know though. I've been told that a Blazer can get to like 250k.

So should I buy it? Is it worth $600?

I also want to know how good it is on gas for sure. MPG for City and highway

There's a picture I took with my phone of it when I was passing by.

Pretty good post for a youngin'. Yes a Blazer can get to 250k miles - and more, it all depends how much money you're willing to put into it. Anytime you buy a used vehicle you should expect repairs to be needed, if it was perfect it wouldn't be for sale. I suggest you check the big ticket items like oil leaks and breaks. Maybe even take it to a mechanic for a once over before you buy. The $40 you spend having him check it is way better than possibly sinking $2k into it. Hopefully you or your step dadhave some mechanical ability and can fix the minor things yourself. I can't say if you should buy it or not - only you and your family know if it fits your needs.

Buy it.....
and even if it doesn't turn out the way you expected, you always have the option to fix the minors and sell it for more.
I wish i could find a blazer like that for $600

See if he'll let you drive it. Look for oil leaks and major transmission problems. Check the 4WD. Check everything electrical to see what works and what doesn't.

Good Luck!

Thanks everyone. I had just a few more questions.
I know eventually in the near future stuff is going to start going wrong since it's already close to 250k miles. So I want to know what I could replace in the truck to make it drive fine and get rid of all the problems. Would it just be a whole engine replacement?
Also I want to say that I'm a 16 year old who doesn't pay any bills and who has always wanted a blazer. I'm ready to sink some money into an old blazer to make it near new.

Also, I still want to know how many miles per gallon a blazer will get city and highway :) Thanks again

You better get it all checked out because if he was selling it for $2000 then $1500 and $1000. You should also check all the fluids just to make sure that he's not trying to sell it because the trans is going out. It's a 4x4 so you'll need to test that to make sure the that's all fine too.. Hope it turns out well for you..

buy a haynes manual for your year truck - follow the recommended service schedule. It will include:

tuneup (plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor, pcv valve, air filter)

change fuel filter, clean throttle body, reverse flush radiator, new radiator cap (Stant brand), grease all 11 grease fittings on the front suspension

check brake pads, transmission fluid change and new filter, change fluid in differentials and transfer case,

you'll have to decide what you can do with the $$ you have.

Thanks everyone. I had just a few more questions.

Sounds like a good value for a first project. Look for rust underneath and on body panels especially around the fenders. (I had an 89 that was so rusy the A-arms and other frame cocmcponents rusted through before the motr died.

Also you should be prepared to learn how to do mechanic work if you do not already. You can do brakes, tune-ups, some suspension parts and interior work yourself. If you have to have all the work done it might cost way to much to complete as a project. Alos rmember tires cost at least a cocucple of hundred for a set and any kind of decent paint job and body work is expensive. Be realistic. Do what you can yourself to save your money for any big items that might occur such as trans or major engine work. Good luck

The CPI injector and nut kit are probably shot. $600+ to fix it there.

You will need to do a complete tuneup on it before really driving it.

But for 600 you can't go wrong, but take it to a mechanic and have it inspected.

Best $20 you will ever spend.

Also, your EGR valve might be dirty.

No idea but I'm curious as to if he bought the blazer or not.

Yes, he bought it for $600 and the next day he walked outside only to find a pile of rust of what was once a 93 blazer.
