Without catback, just muffler, you will probably not feel a difference... maybe 3-5 hp?. It will sound a little deeper and louder... not much. You would still be running the stock pipes which are very restrictive. Go with a catback, either the one for your model or the LT1 (93-97 V8) catback. The one for your V6 is 2.5 inches, and the one for the V8 is 3 inches. I have the one for the V8 on my V6, and as FormulaLT1 can tell you it sounds pretty good, and probably got me around 10-12 hp.
As for 300 dolalrs for installation, I did not pay that much to get my magnaflow high-flow cat and oxygen sensor bung, welded on, and catback installed with clamps. Just replacing the muffler is an easy job you can do in your driveway, and something that would take far under an hour for a shop to do. Maybe 15-30 minutes.

im guessing he cant do it himself so 300 bucks isnt bad at all, as for hp gains exhaust only adds 5-20hp if added with a cold air intake and 5-maybe to 10 without....depending on how restricted it is.
