JET Performance Chip for lumina

hi, I've seen a lot of posts about getting more performance out of your lumina's. If you want to know the best mod to buy you will probably find it at http://www.summitracing.com. I have been looking at the JET-68002 performance chip for my 2001 Lumina. I have been contemplating buying it for some time now, and would like to know if anyone has had any expecience with this thing. If you would like to look at it, go to summing racing's website, on the left side under search, click on "by engine". Then choose "CHEVROLET", "3.1L/189",then "GM V6". Then under model click on "Lumina", and under Part Type click on "Computer Chips/Modules". It will bring up a list, and its the second item from the top on the first page for $199.88. Like I said, If anyone should see any reason to not buy this chip, let me know. How is this installed do I have to solder? is it reversable? and will it hurt my computer ecm at all?

Here is the extent of my knowlege of them. No, there is no soldering, it's just like when you replace your ECM and have to snatch the old chip from it and put it in the new one. There is a panel on the ECM that can be removed for this purpose.

If you ever took the processor out of a PC, you've got the idea, but the ECM's is much smaller and simpler. It's just a chip with pins, and they have to be treated gently. You have to pull them straight out, and push them straight in, to avoid bending the pins.

The do void the EMISSIONS warrantee on the car, so don't take it in for service like that if you are still under. The chip can be switched back out. You will probably have to do an idle relearn after each swap.

A low-temp thermostat is required for most I've seen. Summit's tech dept is awesome, call and they will answer any questions you might have.

I had one in the Impala SS, but it was there when I bought it, I didn't install it. But I can tell you that with nothing more than that and the Flowmaster system, it ran away from other Impalas that had not been modified with ease. I drove a couple of others when I was looking, and that's why I bought it. It just had a sound and a punch to it that none of the others could match.

hmmm, thank you jeff. I think I'm gonna go for it. What is the worse that could happen if i dont put in a low-temp thermostat?

It'll run worse...and set all kinds of codes. But ask Summit before you order it, they'll be able to tell you what is required for it to work.

codes? Um, I hate that light in the dash. maybe I wont. I'll call them. thanks
