Hi all,
Just got my 2000 Buick Century from the dealer...
When I am driving the car, and push the gas pedal to accelerate strongly, the engine starts running up speed, and then starts to cough, and the cars losses power (This is normal on neutral...??)
If I push the pedal gently, the car will accelerate normally and run normally.

Help ?

Thanks
Gabby

Did you just get the car back from service at the dealer? How many miles are on your Century?

In neutral or park if you rev the engine up it will cut off at around 4000 rpm because of the rev limiter in the PCM computer but this is normal. The cut out or losing power when moving and at WOT is not normal.

Hi...
The Car has 59000 miles on it..
I know about the REV limiter, the problem that it happens during drive as well...

The only thing I can suggest is a basic tune up if it already hasn't been done. Fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs and wires.

What exactly is the car doing? Does it feel like a misfire or just cutouts at a certain rpm? Other things that could be checked is to make sure there is 45 - 55 psi of fuel pressure at the fuel injector rails and have your coil packs tested. Also you could clean the MAF sensor. Good luck!
