I knew bikes were fast, but damn. That's ludacris. The Speedo can't even keep up with the acceleration. And that's only a 1000!!! I can't even imagine a 1200.

I'm way new to bikes. Still don't know much about them, but I'm learning now. I used to think that basically anything other than the biggest, baddest 1200cc mosnter bikes weren't much as far as speed goes. Read an article about a couple 600cc bikes in a magazine the other day and now I know...these things, one was a Suzuki and the other was a Kawasaki...both new, were insane. Both ran the 1/4 mile in 8 or 9 seconds. That's impressive.

I think I'm going to get a bike. Gas prices are TOO fuckin stupid right now. Bikes are much less expensive to operate.

OH...maybe someone here would know for sure. I've heard that you don't have to have insurance on a bike if you wear a helmet. That sounds kinda stupid, but what are the requirements when it comes to motorcycles? The right answer to this has the potential to make me into a major bike guy...:p. I HATE auto insurance...

how fast are 250s anyways? i looked up some specs and they only had like 60-80mph times...no 1/4 mile and now tops speed.....internet doesn't have all the answers apparently...or i suck at the internet...probably the latter

my old '91 yamaha fzr250rr was good for a 14 sec quarter on paper. or as a rough guide as quick as a poorly driven wrx

That sounds about right. I had an idea that they'd still be quite fast by car standards, but no where near the 600+ range. That's plenty fast for me.

that's quick if you're used to riding a moped or driving a P.O.S. like i used to....and those new 250s prolly run mid 13s maybe? because that yamaha is an old ass bike...no offense and obviously technology has improved since then....:)

Not really, sportbikes with 250 CC have received the least update of all Japanese motorcycles. The ones that Aussie is referring to, they get 250RRs in Australia, which has 4 cylinders. We get Ninja 250 with parallel 2 cylinders, which can barely do 14.7 at 1/4 mile, suffice to say theirs are faster.

all our CBR250RR's were the same from 91 to 98ish and the same for the ZXR250RR. only slight colour changes thru the years. we get imports and the aussie version. depends on quality but usually the imports are alot cheaper

as far as the speedo jumping around, mine does the same thing, once you pound on the throttle it just starts skipping numbers.

because that was a ZX-10R, literbike has more power, but usually lower max rev-line.

and all bikes with digital speedo skip numbers, cpu can't keep up with high acceleration I guess.

i think when you're going that fast it doesn't need to show you the exact mph....you already know you're hauling ass...hehe

i'm going to try to upload my video to that site. its me at eastern creek. the speedo was obscured by my key ring but you see it climb from 100 to 250 pretty quick

(km's guys before you all wet your pants. don't forget i'm an aussie)

The reason it can't keep up is just because it doesn't take a reading often enough. It's like the old school web cams...remember?...how the picture would jump from frame to frame whenever you move? Cuz the frame rate is too slow. The computer displaying the speed reading doesn't take a "picture" (reading) enough times a second to display the correct speed when you're accelerating fast. Pretty crazy...you can accelerate faster on one of those damn things than the computer can keep up with!!
