Can bad gas do this kind of damage?

Have a 2004 Cavalier. Has ran perfect.

This morning put in half a tank of gas.
Car started knocking IMMEDIATLY on driving out of station. Kept knocking horribly for a few miles then would stall at lights. Checked oil and was a little low, put more in. Put in gas treatment in case it was water in the gas. Still knocking. Checked oil again after driving a few miles... almost gone. It's not leaking and its not smoking.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Roy

I think at this point it would be best to start the car and check under again oil pressure could cause the leak.

But if you have driven only a few miles and your oil was almost gone then you have a big problem.

If your exhaust dosen't have a blueish smoke comming out check the radiator and see if the oil is getting into the cooling system.

if this knocking is a loud banging sound.... well its best to say that you engine is knocking on heavens door :P

No lound knocking... more of a rattlling noice.
After talking to several folks and one mechanic seems diesel fuel may have contanimated the unleaded at the station. Gonna fill it with premium and see if it works its way out.
Appreciate the input.

If you have contaminated gas in your tank, premium won't help any more than the cheaper stuff. You ought to siphon as much out of the tank as possible and then refill it. The less contaminated fuel you run through your system, the better for the filter, injectors, sensors, etc.
