ok here is the deal, i live in nj and as most people i think that i live in the worst state for pot holes (if your state doesn't go through four different seasons that you can't even compare). But anyway I can't take the rough ride any more.

so what i want to know is that if i put some oem shocks on do i have to get rid of my coilovers, i don't have them dropped that much because i have 18" rims so if i drop them much they rub. some background info is listed below

1995 acura integra
Tokico adjustable shocks
Dropzone coilovers (dropped maybe an inch)
18" rims

I would think it'd be the coilovers you should get rid of and not the shocks. Why not just adjust the shocks and buy a set of "OE" aftermarket springs that only lower it like .75"s?

it isn't any bouncing that bothers me, its just the roads are so bad that any bump you hit and its like hitting a speed bump at 60mph, even if i raised the car to stock height it would still be a rough ride. it was like that when i had the stock springs on when i had 17" rims on the car

i am starting to believe that it just doesn't make sense to have these high performance shocks and super lowered cars that end up ruining your suspenstion.

I have already went through two pair of tie rods, and my rack & pinion replaced once. See i already got the wheel well pretty much filled with the 18" rims so for looks i don't think i need to drop the car much.

would it be ok to use the coilovers with oem shocks

oh and i have adjusted the shocks they are at the most comfortable setting

NO, UNLESS YOUR RICH ENOUGH TO GET NEW ONES EVERY 6 MONTHS OR LESS. MOST PERFORMANCE SHOCKS ESPECIALLY THE ADJUSTABLE ONES, ARE MADE FOR LOWERING SPRINGS / COILOVERS. I AGREE WITH SPOON, JUST GET LIKE TEIN H TECHS (THEY ONLY DROP THE CAR .5"-1'' FROM STOCK) OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT THERE LIKE 150-200 SHIPPED.

hmm maybe i will go with oem all around, shocks and springs, like i said i have the 18" rims so the wheel well is already pretty filled

do you have low profile tires? those make you feel every bump im the road. instead of 225/35 get 225/45 or 40. i did that w/ my 17's b/c i couldn't take the how rough the ride was. i have tokiko illumina shocks as well and now that i have bigger tires dont feel the bumps as much so i dont think it was the shocks that hurt the ride qualitly.

It's the tire size not the suspensions fault. If you want a better ride you need at least a 45 series tire, 45 is still a bit rough. I don't understand losing ride quality for some thing you can't see when driving and they slow you down. Not to mention the extra strain put on the suspension & brakes. :2cents:

when you say 225/35 or 45, doesn't that lastnumber have more to do with width of the tire rather than diameter, i dont' see how more width would improve ride quality wouldn't increasing the diameter be better, like a 235/35 tire, something like that?

The 2nd set of numbers reflects the TIRE SIDE WALL height, which affects ride quality. It's a ratio of the width.

Instead of get new tires for the 18's get a new set of wheels & tires 16" or 17"max.

I have a better idea than changing your suspension setup...just take off the 18's and put either smaller rims or ur stock rims back on... less rubber = "rougher" ride :2cents:

Another factor to ride quality not mentioned is the actual tire's sidewall stiffness. The more stiffy that harder the ride! ;-) Maybe get a tire that has a softer sidewall, like Bridgestone G009s.
