Fellow se-r owners i need some information about earlier se-r's. I might be purchasing a 1994 se-r 5-spd. It has about 175K on the odometer, and the body is in bad shape. Btw, it's only gonna b around $500-700 range. Is there any problems that these cars tend to have?(transmission,engine...etc) I saw the guy drive the car and i don't think he can drive a manual really well....i might have to get the transmission rebuilt. Any info on what to look for is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

the biggest problem is the 5th gear popout.

check for sagging doors from old hinges and busted CV boots. I don't think any 1994 has had the 5th gear pop-out problem. But if the tranny is whining and sounding kinda funny, you might wanna replace it anyway. It would probably be cheaper to replace it than to rebuild it. Also, when you test drive it, rev it up into the 6k-7k area and listen for some funny sounding stuff from the engine. If the previous owner never revved it up, the cams are probably a little gunked up when you get into the higher rpms. But no biggie, just run it to 7k every now and then for a while and it should go away.

thnx, next time i go to see the car(maybe buy) i'll do that. My friend who test drove it said the transmission grinds all gears. I'll probably look around for used ones. Thanks for all the information.
