Studdering at start

I have a '97 Cavvalier manual trans. The problem is when I start my car after about 30 seconds it wants to studder, sometimes die. If i rev the engine when it settles back down it studders. This only goes on for about a min then it's fine and it's only on start up after it has sit for a while. Also if i pull out and go I have to take off pretty quick cause if i go slow it studders. But once i get into 3rd gear it's fine.
I've changed the air filter, spark plugs, fuel filter and the 02 sensor on the exhaust manifold. I'm currently working on changing the one after the cat (corroded). Any idea's? Also my temp gauge used to sit at 195 and now it sits almost in between half (195) and 3/4. I don't know if that has anythig to do with it. I'm not exactly an idiot when it comes to cars but this one has me stumped.....help

I changed the IAT sensor and nothing happened. So I went and bought an Idle Air Control valve and changed it and now it works like a charm. I guess my old IAC was burnt up. Thanks for the help tho!

it's on the front of the engine on the throttle body. at least that's where mine is. it's really accessible and it's held on by 2 screws. you'll need a 20 star bit screw driver for em.

I recently had the same problem... I too took off the IAC and gave it a good spray with carb cleaner; along with the PCV, and replaced my plugs; not enough. So I look around some more, since it is obviously some sort of emissions problem-and I see this small black hose under the throttle body connecting directly to the intake manifold and to some sort of sensor with 3 wires (MAP)... anyway the hose was dry rotted on both connecting ends and split wide open; therefore faulting the MAP sensor-which can cause symptoms of the IAC, PCV, incorrectly or worn spark plugs, ext.
I'd say check it out-worth a shot; cost me less then $1 to replace and I have no trouble now! My car is a z24 the throttle body is right in the front facing up when you are looking under the hood from the front and the MAP is a small square almost flat black chip looking device with 3 wires coming from it, directly to the right of the throttle body. Underneath the MAP the hose connects and is about 5" or so long, connects to the intake on the other end (which is directly below and a little to the right of the IAC.

It's funny you mention that hose thing now...i talked to my neighbor and he said it was the MAP sensor so i went and bought it trusting him and when i went to replace it i saw that the hose was all cracked and dry rotted like you said...I replaced the hose and the MAP sensor anyways and it still does it...so now im told that i have to go in and reset the computer because it is showing that it is running to lean(meaning too much air it getting in)
