Quarter Mile Times

Two questions..

First: whats your quarter mile time?

Second: Stock camaro with a 305 is in the low 16 sec, 350 is like mid 14's (i think), so what about a 396, and 405, aprox?

405?????? what engine is that??

anyway, big block cars ran in the 14-15 second range, with the fastest running mid 13 second times. the exception is the ZL1 that ran 12s and with slicks and headers ran 11's.

my cars have not made it to the strip yet, so i dont know.

The 305 TPI's were low 14's/high 13's (some years)as were the 350's.
which 396? The SB stroker? And the 405? you mean 406? Those all depend on how you build them..they were not factory installed engines.

According to stuff on the internet that i've been looking at my Monte is 16.-17. sec car, which I dont really believe cause I took on and beat a GMC Sierra a while ago, but thats a truck so who knows, maybe im trying to make myself feel better. But I dont really believe those times unless I goto the strip.

Yeah I meant 406, but I was really thinking 454. I confused myself and but 405, oops. I know they were not stock but If you were to put a standard 396 or 454. in a bone stock camaro just wondering how fast it would run.

id say around 13 seconds, but thats just a guess, it would vary with what tranny and rear gears you had.

my bone stock Z28 except for a K+N Filter Ran a 13.62 @ approx 102MPH That's off the top of my head so I don't know exact. So the 454 I'm guessing would run low 13's like 89Iroc says, all depends how well your tires hook up. Now get the suspension beefed up and it will be in the 12's somewhere. :))

On Gran Turismo 4 the 454 Chevelle ran mid 13s..

lol, yeah.. and on Need for Speed Underground, the Corvette and GTO easily get their asses handed to them by the Skyline and WRX. Games are so biased towards the japanese and european imports. No wonder why today's teenagers love Honda's and other imports. Not that I'm bashing anyone or any type of car. Mearly just making a point. I like Honda's, in fact, I wan't to get a CRX as a daily driver. It's a hatchback thang :icon16:

i agree. Ill get a honda for a daily driver maybe but I wouldnt feel safe in a crx. Mostly because the thought of a crx vs. ANYTHING much less anything the size of a f250 which there are plenty of suvs and trucks on the road of that size........not pretty......

on the other hand they are so small and light they can be very fun to drive.

=P I concur with the lack of safety in the CRX. Although the 1900lb weight is a really nice setup.

I'm thinking of getting a new car *gasp* really xeno?

ja, not sure what, leaning towards a 02-05 honda fully loaded for daily driver and gonna grab a 92 Z28 w/ 350 and make that the garage queen, track devil car.

I want a garage....
seriously though thats my dream. To have my own garage thats separate from the house and to have an above ground lift. Tools, work benches, air wrenches....as close to heaven as you can get down here...

Oh I'm pulling out of a slump. Realistically I can probably buy a nice fully loaded 17k car around March-ish time w/ trading in my 6er and then save up some extra cash to buy a nice 92 Z w/ 350 for like a grand or 1.5k in the end of the summer.

:)

i guess thats a good idea... my idea, take out 10k loan for school after i get out of school take out 10k loan for car get a good job..... hopefully they will start me at 10/hr with full time hours...

FT @ 10/hr is like 1200-1400 a month after taxes (well it was that for me with insurance taken out.) Depends what you want. I need a 100% (ok i know wont happen) dependable daily driver car so when I see flames/smoke coming from the 350 I wont have to stress about calling for a ride the next day.

(I make 14/hr and w/o insurance or anything taken out I pull home about 1800/mo so you get an idea of what to budget. Also I have to support myself 100% mommy and daddy dont think i exist anymore :x btw i'm 20 )

No, I said "I wan't to get a CRX." I like those things. They suck in accidents, yes. But the gas mileage they get is worth the risk to me. It's just hard to find one that's in decent shape and that the owner isn't asking a rediculous amount of money for.

well i suppose thats a logical reason, but do me a favor, invest in a full interior roll cage. it dosnt have to be anything spectacular, but 1in pipe following the interior edges of the car, tucked away out of the way, would be probly the best investment of your life.

im glad you said that, i was wondering how hard it would be to install a pre fabbed 12 point rollcage? i know just about everything needs to come out so you have access to the areas you need to weld to... but i was wondering about what it looks like... i seen on tv the other night, this guy build cutom roll cages but his style is to keep the cage hidden so you cant see it from out side the car unless your right up on top of it... like you cant see it from side windows or anything unless you are right on top of the car... how much you think that guy would charge for a 12 point in a 2000 camaro? lol, i am deff gonna need a rool cage as speeding is fun but if something happens and you manage to start going side ways and hit a tree it wont be pretty, im just trying to have some speeding fun not die...

I've seen some results of accidents with 4th gen camaro's and I'm suprised with how tough the cars really are. One of my friends crashed his 99 ss, he got hit broadside by a bus traveling around 70 mph, he had lost traction on some sand on the onramp and was hit on the driver's side. It stuffed the a-pillar in about 10 inches, folded the top of the windshield in, shoved the steering wheel into the radio and pretty much wrecked the car. My friend spent 5 days in the hospital, and when things were all said and done he bought the car back from the insurance company. When we were dismantling it, we discovered the passenger side door opened and closed properly. Amazing considering the impact a 15 ton bus had on the car and how twisted the floor was. And yes, he was wearing a seat belt, but it didn't stop his head from breaking the t-top on the driver's side at the initial impact, resulting in 30 stitches.

If a CRX (or most any other car) was in that accident he would have been dead.

The CRX would have turned into what is left over after you stomp on a beer can. :/

I suck a driving.

I have a modded LS1 and I am in the 14's.
Of course....I am hoping to completely skip the 13's, and if I find sea level, even skip the 12's.
This season, I hope......

a 12 point cage in a street car is a tad bit overkill. you could do just fine with a 4 or 6 point cage. and it would be far easier to hide from sight. gotta remember, our girls arent that easy to get in and out of to begin with add a 12 point rollcage, and youll need to get in through the t-tops.

My goal for late next summer.....

Mid-High 10's. Cordova.

Will this happen....kinda depends on money. Getting close to having this 402 project ready though. 12's at this altitude on street tires is IMPRESSIVE for an N/A car. And I think I should be able to pull that off no problem.
I want 11's here once I get the rear-end taken care of, and a couple minor suspension mods.

will the 6 point help the car be more ridget? like reduce body flex? i read that with t-tops + high hp the body flexes like crazy...

Knock off roughly a second. Can be a bit more depending on how hot it is here.
Most of the time, I run with a 6500+ DA.

even a 4 point rollcage will help reduce chassis flex, however they will add weight to the car. its a give and take thing.

I cant wait till i get a v8 period then start modding it. I really hope I can break 12's AT LEAST.

I probally woulnt drive the CRX, IMO, because the other day this CRX was passing me and ran a red light and almost got hit by an excursion! He would have been road kill, the excursion was doing speed limit at about 45-50mph... So I am starting to have second thoughts about getting a motorcycle as a beater...

skibum1111
07-23-2005, 05:35 PM
You might be safer in the CRX than on a bike, at least in the small tin can you have things around you, on a bike you have nothing, and that excursion would have hurt alot more on a bike. Plus, you have to worry about bugs, I took a june bug on my forehead at 40 mph, almost knocked me off the bike. Left a nice big target on me too, just glad it was my forehead and not in my mouth... yuk...

89IROC&RS

lol hell man i hate hitting bugs while riding my bicycle. let alone on a motorcycle. i still want a buell though :)
