Fog Light Resetting?

Hello there,

I drive a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu LS...

Where I live there are very few streetlights and thus I need all the light I can when driving. I used to own a 1992 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme (GM too), and on that vehicle when you turned on your fog lights they stayed on, just so long as the headlights were on.

So my question is this: is there some reason every time I restart my car I have to push the fog light button in order to turn them back on? Is there some sort of fuse or relay that controls whether or not the fog lights will come back on when I turn the headlights back on? I know that I have Daytime Running Lights, but there should still be some way to have the fog lights go on when the car is on.

If anybody knows whether or not it's possible for my foglights to come on when my headlights do, please let me know. :)

Thanks,
Zach

It is done that way because the fog lamps are shorter life bulbs than other lamps meant to be on more of the time.

They work that way due to an electronic module which controls the fog lamp relay. The switch doesn't control the relay directly.
