anyone using a fuji finepix 5100

well i did some research. and this is the camera i decided on. I got it for my birthday today. and was wondering if anyone has one and has shot their models with it, and can give some pointers on setting it up. im thinking that i might have to get an additional macro lense. but we will see. i'll try and get some test shots up in a bit

well here is a teaser shot. i am exhausted and this is as far as i got. i figured out how to manually focus the pictures and that helped a TON. i was scared i didn't get a good enough camera. thanks to GTMike400 for selling me on the fuji!

I picked up a Fuji S3000 not too long ago and I love it. The best digicam I have ever owned. The software is top-notch and pic quality (once you get used of it) is excellent.

I got my S5100 a few months ago. All I bought for it are 8 NiMh batteries w/charger and a 256mb card. Haven't used it for models much since my older 2mp Olympus works just fine for that purpose. I want to get the telephoto add-on before the kids' soccer season starts although the 10x zoom is pretty good already.

The competing Canon S1 IS at least zooms in a portion of the scene when manual focusing so you can tell if you're really focused or not, the Fuji just takes a little more squinting. Still, the manual focus is a big plus. Nothing ticks me off more when taking macro pictures than listening to the autofocus go "zzzt zzt zzzt zzzt" until it tells you it can't focus, which is what my other film SLR does. Getting a manual focus lens for my SLR would cost more than the 5100.

Nice nab there on the camera. I need to get a 1:1 macro lens for my Yashica FRII SLR. I have a 1:6.5, but that doesn't work to well for models. It's a really nice camera for semi-auto film, but it doesn't do the job with the lens, so I'm stuck with our Kodak DX3900 digital for taking pictures. Anyways, off of the subject of me and back to you. That picture looks great on what's focused. Very very nice on the macro.

I've had a S7000 for about a year now. I'm very happy with it. I find to take the best shots you need to select the longest focal length possible and use a tripod to steady it.

Fuji macro is one of the best on the market after Nikon.

I have the S3100, which has many of the features of the S5100, and I love it. It takes awesome pics, and is easy to use right out of the box. The 3100 is my second Fuji camera, and I've been happy with both. Good choice!
