Subwoofer

I have a 2001 LS8 with the alpine sound system, but no subwoofer. Where can I get a subwoofer, how much, and is it easy to hook up ?
Also if I change all my speakers, add a subwoofer and keep my head unit, would my sound system sound better than my stock system?
