Sketches

I almost broke my knee cap running to the hot tub so while I had my leg up on ice and my meds were circulating I sketched a bit.
First sheet VWs. Got a convertible job coming up so I was just feelin it out.
Did a quick toon of my buddies bus, and decided I wanted to do a people thing on every sheet for my kids. Yes I actually draw a box still. I try to make the box funky in the hopes I get a funky toon.
http://www.58vw.com/af/cscan1.jpg
Blew up the 2 that emerged. If I ever decide to use these I'll print out the blown up sketch and head to the light table.
http://www.58vw.com/af/cscan2.jpg
Reno 911 came on while I was flippin through a Motor Trend and I never drew one so
http://www.58vw.com/af/cscan3a.jpg
Threw down a few thoughts just in case
http://www.58vw.com/af/cscan3.jpg
a little closer
http://www.58vw.com/af/cscan4.jpg
I threw in some police decal indicators and once again if this goes "real" I'll get it on the light table and after a few times over I should be able to lock it down.
Sometimes I like the tiny toon sketch approach. I'm pretty sloppy when sketching anyway. I like to push the lines around while I'm thinking....or rather "not thinking"....there's not a lot of conscious thought going on most of the time in my head as it is.
I requested Toonz put up some of his sketches so this is a scratch back.
anybody else?

Nice toons Lemorris! Your style is great. I like the one with the Reno and the guy's head sticking out. Have you ever gone to an art or design school?

lol
I went to an art and design school back in 1989. There were no computers and I was schooled in many traditional methods. I got my car stuff from George Trosley and CARtoons magazine. Trosley had a book and I ordered it a long time ago. he was out of copies so he sent me tracings from his light table of unpublished Krass and bernie work.
We became pen pals and still correspond on ocassion. He encouraged me throughout my time in art school and the military. (Navy). He's the main reason I give. I learned from him that we can all get better by sharing...not so much our methods, but what we're thinking and feeling in our car art.
He's a great man. http://www.georgetrosley.com
In my non car art life I work as a media developer and graphic designer so the art school stuff paid off.
My wife was a classmate...when I saw her drawings I fell in love!

lol
what about you Alex? If I'm not mistaken you're still a little young, but your ability to render what you see is almost freakish. You got plans after high school?
You're going to be one of the best.

Horses.
lol it shows the true subject differences between woman and men:
Men = cars
Women = horses.
It already starts at kindergarten, I can somehow remember...
Except of the horrible themes of her pictures, they look awesome. I just can't understand how someone who can draw that good, draws horses. What a dissipation. :disappoin
Oh and your sketches are cool. Nearly forgot that. I like the loose but somehow clean style, that's what I'm currently working at.
Looks pro. Ok, you are pro, so it should look pro.
But I mean it looks fine.

Horses and Horsepower
just "horses"
Check out her other galleries you'll see a 41 Ford in acrylic.
She's actually nationally recognized and with one more acceptance to the AAEA her prices will leap to about $2000 per so you better buy now.
She can draw anything....trust me...she's much much better than I am. That's why I married her. lol

That's my favorite. Great colors...
I really like most of the motifs. except the horses.
I hope you have a big house to give a wall to give each piece of the "private collection" a wall.

Awesome doodle sketches .I dont normally keep mine but all mine start out just like yours do, then I draw the rough sketch to were it is to the state where I will render it. I give my doodles to my sons for them to use as reference .Lets see some more , and I'll see if I can dig up some of mine .

I was just bustin your chops Knight.
To be honest in many ways it is a very accurate generalization.
The thing that I have noticed is the females that do draw cars are damn good! One school of thought is that they have to be better to get props in a male dominated field.
In the Equine art world my wife dwells in it's odd because there are so few guys, but they are at the top of the field.
Another school of thought suggests that girls avoid cars because guys who smell like grease are bad kissers.
joke
seriously though the few females that stroll these halls kick a_s. Jeri Clow, Hot Rod Xristina, our own Girl Bear and last but not least one of my all time favorites...the late, great Shawn Kerri.
-Lemorris
p.s. Our new home has plenty of wall space and we measured today for our new custom built studio. Should be cool.

for the most part just a few minutes...less than 10 on any one drawing. At this stage I'm after feel more than form. If I land a sketch I want to work up, I'll blow it up and head to my light table and start refining lines and stuff. The sketch has attitude and when I transfer my drawing I try to clean up the image but maintain the feel.

I've heard from an art teacher that once you can draw a good horse, you can draw anything...think there's any truth to it?

Well I'd say you're a good drawer when you can draw any object/person/animal.

For me drawing has been a learned craft.
I think you can draw anything when you learn to see.

Wonderful sketches, lots of character in them!
Your wife's work is beautiful too. :)
I was an equine artist for several years (foxhunting, racing) before switching primarily to cars. :)

Lemorris, just took a second look at thumbnails.
Your wheel/tire ellipses amaze me.
The way you align them adds so much more depth than what I've been drawing.
I'm gonna give your style a try.
